Default Cleaning Engine

This is my issue-

Whilst the Mugen Oil cap looks cool, the scabby VTEC bages and the oil marks really
let the engine bay down!

Anyone know what can i use to remove the oil marks without the risk of effecting
that foxy red!?
Also any ideas on how to polish up the badges would be greatly appreciated.

Paul

Copied from a friends info...

I would do it a little at a time, using as little water as possible.

Spray a small amont of Autogylm degreaser (engine cleaner) on a chosen area, agitate with a soft brush for a few seconds to start it working, rinse of with a small amount of water or even better just a damp cloth, dry as best you can with a towel, move onto the next area. Doing a small area at a time saves getting the whole engine and parts you dont want to get wet.

Cover anything you don't fancy getting wet with plastic bags or cling film if your really worried.

After dress plastics and hoses with something like Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber, polish the paintwork with Autoglym Super Resin and any shiny metalwork such as the aircon pipes with metal polish.

The scabby bits on the logo are oxide, its alumininium and you don't want it shiney. I would be tempted to use a scouring product whilst protecting the paint.

Let me make a few enqiries as I have to do a similar thing.....

Okay
Problem is the surrounding paintwork can get damaged so you need to be careful to protect any of this. Take the plate off and prepare it then spray on some Meguiars Hot thingy;
rub this in carefully with a scouring pad, then rinse off. Once you have clean and shiny metal you need to dress is with some engine sealant else it will dull.

Other option is get some CF bling;

Halfords

Spray it on a warm engine. Wait a few mins

Jetwash the engine. (Cover electrical bits, or careful not to spray them)

Wipe damp bits down, leave to dry

Apply the CD2 protector.

Nice n shiney.

I used that on my FTO. Worked really well. Cling film all the electrical bits and air intake very carefully beforehand.

Cling flim over any electrical parts then spray every where with Autoglym Engine and machine cleaner, work in with a brush. Rinse off with water then spray Autoglym vinyl and rubber care on all plastic and rubber parts. Close the hood and leave to dry.

As for the Vtec part try metal cleaner or an emery board.

Not bad for 81,000 miles.

I find using interior spray (Vinylex) and a cloth brings the engine back to factory.
