Default Clutch biting point

Noticed lately that my clutch biting point is pretty high. I only have to press it a few cm to disengage. Feels sold and not too hard and never really noticed any slippage apart from at traffic lights occasionally (maybe 5 times since having the car - had it 1 year).

Got a feeling the clutch is getting near the end of it's life, gearchange is a bit notchier than normal too

I would say so Si, as you know its hydraulic so if its high then it can only be accounted by wear I would think. Best leave it until it slips though

Hi Rich, if you have done a couple before I dont think you will have much problem. As with all cars, they have their quirks!

I didnt do a clutch on the S so have no first hand experience but looks straight forward (ish)

Subframe looks a bit of a pain.

Try adjusting the rod underneath the dash on top of the clutch pedal, ive just done it to mine after reading the US forum. Its made the clutch feel a lot smoother and no so much pedal travel.I think the gear changes are a bit clicker too...Im going to go for a blast in a minute to check...

Thanks,

I have read up a bit on this in the past and checked it thi morning, I can definately feel two stages of free play as posts mention. I could adjust any slack that is present in the pedal. 2nd stage of freeplay is the master cylinder itself.

This will mean even less pedal for the same clutch action though Ah well it's not slipping yet. just have to watch the GP starts and make sure the tyres slip

It will make your gearbox a lot smoother,as i said ive adjusted mine and get no notchy gear changes anymore, but my bite point is quite high too...I think i'll get the dealer to change the clutch fluid at the next service as apparently that can lower the bite point.
