Question Dead cat

Can anyone give me any advice on replacing the cat, the emissions on the car are melting the ozone layer currently and the local Honda dealers suggest the cat has died. I fitted a vortex exhaust a couple of months ago, the electronics are still original though I plan to fit an aem ecu in the very near future. Honda want £1400 for an original cat, hendy performance have HKS cats for half that. So with everything currently stock on the car (except the exhaust) would fitting the HKS cat cause any problems without having the ecu replaced?

The other option I guess is to fit a factored cat, get the ecu changed, fit the HKS cat then get it remapped.

Cheers for any ideas

Couldn't you just buy a secondhand cat, circa £100 or so? Or do you want to be decatted?

Scrap the cat and fit a test pipe. Unless you're waiting on an MOT and the tester is a Nazi in which case buy a second hand cat, get your ticket, then fit a test pipe.

I guess eBay is your friend then. If you fancy a scenic drive down to Devon you'd be more than welcome to borrow one of mine to get you through the test, but for the price of fuel you'll probably pick one up second hand.

Seems you're only just down the road, I have an OEM cat with a rattle ( loose substrate/core) that you're welcome to collect for free, it still worked when I replaced it with a Berk a few years ago and has sat in the shed since.

Although are you sure that an air leak wasn't introduced when you replaced the exhaust ?

PM if interested

/edit to answer your questions I'm running OEM engine management with a Berk cat, K&N FIPK and OEM exhaust, it should be able to cope without running lean until you replace all the breathing mods - I'd hold fire on the AEM EMS + tune
