Debate - New 2.2 VTEC - Possibly a bit controversial this one

I have yet to drive an '04 even though the offer was given, what can I say, it was late at night, but I have ridden in one. The thing that was disappointing was that after VTEC hit, it was time to shift. I prefer the higher red because you have more time in VTEC, and last time I checked, that was the three-quarters of the fun!
The exhaust note is clearly deeper and louder though, and the headrest speakers are just plain fantastic!!!
HandA, one of the site sponsors, sell them for $420, Neil (or so I read in main the FS&W forum, anyway). I think I also read that they could be made to fit 99-03s too, although I'm not sure whether they do so out of the box and, if not, how much work is required to make them compatible.
Triple H, I assume that the deeper exhaust note is a function of the different engine? I'm having to remove my HKS system as it apparently won't fit, and am really going to miss the growly bass tone, but it wouldn't be quite so bad if the F20C 04 did actually have a deeper tone than previous cars.

Honda (and all other bike manufacturers) do a similar sort of thing with their sports bike engines by using the same unit in a sports bike and a naked (without fairing) bike.
When a sports bike gets a new engine the naked bikes normally continue to use the older version of the engine until stocks run out when the bike is then updated with the new engine ....... this becomes a continuous cycle.
The F20C was only used in the one car so the only way to use up a production run is to keep selling it in one or more of their markets.
Even if Honda are still producing the old engine they will have done their sums on how many more that they need to produce to satisfy these markets for x number of years before they start using only the single engine and in doing so maximise their profits.
I would expect a switch over to the 2.2 in all markets sometime in 2005.
Andy, again from skim-reading in S2000 Talk, I think the answer was yes, it's possible. No idea of cost of the replacement tips and whether any work is required to make them fit though. Maybe worth you trying a search.
Neil, irrespective of cost, I think I'll be sticking with my Lucid rear panels - I prefer to be able to retain my Aus headrests.

Wow, busy thread...
I'm just under 6 feet, although I'm not 100% sure, I really don't think seat travel is going to be resticted by the speakers. They are not that thick and they seem to nestle into the headrest very well.

For all these questions regarding an '04 part fitting onto an earlier model, hardtopguy can answer all you questions, feel free to PM him. He has been very busy figuring all this stuff out over here.

What do we reckon for Honda UK price then?
