Decats....
I know there are plenty of decat thread on here so apologies if I have missed this being answered elsewhere.
I want to reduce some drone off my afternarket exhaust, what would achieve the better result? Resonated or non resonated?
Would love to hear from people with first hand experience in regard to this.
Thanks

Do you mean baffled?
The OEM exhaust has a resonance chamber to reduce the drone, it's a blanked off dog-leg between the two rear pipes.
A Decat will either be a straight piece of pipe with a collector at either end, or it'll be a piece of pipe with a "puffed out" shape. This will quieten that section of pipe, but little else.
It varies from exhaust to exhaust. Decats are said to reduce the drone on AM exhausts, but I haven't found that to be the case.
My friend followed me to south wales on Friday afternoon. At a rest stop, he got out of his decatted-Larini-exhausted elise and proclaimed "FECK ME!! That thing is LOUD! I couldn't hear my own car over the noise yours was making through those tunnels"
I do keep being told that it's a LOT louder outside the car than in... *blushes*. It wasn't that loud before the decat.

I've had both a non-resonated/baffled Berk Technology decat as well as my resonated Buddyclub one on an OEM exhaust. The only difference between them is that with the Berk pipe you could hear the exhaust gas flow slightly, especially on gear change at high revs wheras I don't with the Buddyclub.
As long as you get the 'cel fix' from e-bay for about £10 it doesn't matter what decat you get to be honest, its just a piece of pipe.
As for noise within the car its not much different to OEM although I'd guess if its with your Buddyclub ProSpec then its likely to be a lot louder.

I have a Magnaflow 62mm cat back, which sounded nice, when I fitted my supercharger I put a Garage-r decat on...Feck is it loud.I bought a 3 in system off MB and fitted it with the decat..Feck is it even louder,So I put the Magnaflow back on.I will have to live with it and it drones accelerating through 60-80 in top but doesnt seem to bad at motorway speeds.
When Richard set it up on the dyno at TTS we had to close the doors it is that loud. But I dont know what I am going to do about it...Nothing at the moment.I may go turbo so that will quieten it down
