Default Decisions.....

I was going to invest in a new wheel and tyre package for my car this year - currently on standard 16's.
Unfortunately my hood is succumbing to wear on the drivers side - a small abrasion has turned into a (currently) small wear-hole. Noticeable (just) from outside.
With the expectation that better weather is on the way, and the hood going up/down more frequently, I can see this wearing more and becoming more of a problem.
So - given an new hood, fitted, will blow my wheel budget- whats the collective wisdom?
I may be able to afford both over the course of the year, but I've just had one unexpected bill come in and who's to say another won't present itself?

Wheels and tyres and a feel good factor?

New hood and the knowledge that the roof is "sorted"?

Car is 52 plate, 84k miles and I have no plans to sell in the short to medium term.

A well placed patch on the inside of the roof?

Useable S > leaky S that looks good on the outside!

Standard 16s are not that bad and easy to live with, a leaky hood is not!

I agree - Now there are excellent tyres such as the Advan AD08.

There also seems to be a recent tendency for people who clearly do not understand the car's dynamics to be putting the most ill-fitting wheels on the poor thing. Either do it properly or don't do it at all.

A bit of powder-coating, yes - maybe. But don't join the latest sucker trend for the sake of it.

A tatty roof & big aftermarket wheels is very pikey, too.

Pah, it's not like he's gonna drown. Duck tape on the inside and carry a towel.

OEM 17's FTW

Depends on your budget and DIY skills.

There's a good Monsoon roof on the bay for £250

I've had a fair few wheels on my S yet I'm not sure there's much difference in the way the car drives with stock 16's, stock 17's or low offset 17's - alignment is key.

OEM 17's do look good though.

You can't get AD08s for 16" wheels (well, you can get fronts, but not the rears).

Get the roof done.

I'm feeling the love

Agree 100%. Mine isn't tatty yet, but I could see it going that way. Being 10 years old it has faded somewhat, and has the usual wear marks where stretched over the frame. A new hood that going forward I can treat with the appropriate products (I am the second owner) will also give the car a general lift.

I "bought" this earlier in the week - then they clarified that this is an upgrade roof for earlier car's with a plastic screen - it won't fit mine unfortunately
Ebay deal was reversed.

Mine is tatty, but being a garage queen I rarely drive with it up, and I don't have aftermarket wheels.

Am I still a pikey?
