Default Diff noise?

I did a search but couldnt find the answer i am looking for.

I am getting a whine from the diff and also a slight knock when i lift off the accelerator and also when i put my foot on the accelerator. And the weirdest one is if im cruising at around 50 and ever so slightly press the accelerator i get like humming noise like its a wheel bearing??

Now its a 99 and has only 36k on it so i doubt the diff could be packing in already?

Checked the Diff oil and its not low, is it just in need of a change or is there damage done as i doubt this is normal?

Any help greatly appreciated as its not nice to drive with as i feel like im damaging something

Cheers,
Peter.

hmm.. can't really tell. The clutch on your car might buzz but that wouldn't sound like it was coming from the diff, it's a metallic ringing from the gearstick area.

the S has more transmission noise than your average vectra but they do that from new.

diffs have been known to go..

have you checked the gearbox/engine mounts?

Could just be the hub nuts need re-torquing. Its a common problem. Take a look at this thread.

havent checked the mounts yet , i keep meaning to as the whole drivetrain of the just doesnt feel right too me, kind of hard to explain it could be just me being paranoid but i dont think the noises from the diff are me being paranoid.

I had a similar noise recently, the whole wheel hub needed replacing, cv joint and all.

good point from LTB.. i think there can be an issue with corrosion of a wheel bearing.. they aint cheap. I guess take your dealer out in it?

It does sound similar to the noises I had about 10 miles before I was stranded in Hatfield tunnel with a seized diff

right ive decided not to drive her till i change the diff and gearbox oils just to be safe hopefully il get it done over the next night or 2 if i get a chance. At least that will rule that out and if it doesnt work i might just leave into Honda to have a look. Hopefully that sorts it as its realy bothering me now

just a quick check, after doing a search it seems 75w 90 for the diff and Honda MTF for the gearbox? that sound right?
