Does anyone know if the 2000 spec and 2004/5 spec diffs are different?
All S2000's either use the same diff, or the parts are superseded so are compatible across the range.

ie Different MY's have different part numbers, however you can fit an MY06 diff to an MY00.

It may be an option, my brother and father live in the UK and my bro can courier it to me. but it may be too expensive to ship.

also, once they open the diff, apparently it needs parts to be replaced already since they break things to open it, so i may be out of pocket if its something small to replace and i get a diff from overseas.

or if the diff must be replaced, i will get one from the UK and will wait for it to arrive.

And i have a warrantee (non Honda) which may pick up the cost (or part thereof) so...

The service people were very nice to me today, the service manager also oversaw the replacing and draining of my oil. but i seriously wonder if the oil was replaced at last service. but thats just wrong of me suspecting foul play from them. but i dont understand why they replaced if for free in anycase.

Peter, where woudl i start to look for a scrapyard inthe UK and find out if they have a diff or how much it will be (ad how much it weighs)? I can always ask my bro to find out the shipping costs, but he is a bit useless when it comes to cars so wont expect him to know what a diff is. If i have to replace a diff here (at a cost of 3000 pounds or whatver) it will make sense to get one from the UK.
There is a list of breakers here that seem to do a few S2000's. The prices i have been getting is around

thanks.

i will wait and see what honda SA say. Maybe i can claim from insurance, maybe the diffs are cheap in SA and u rich europeans are subsidising it :-) but i seriously doubt that, parts are double/triple the price here.

Mine sings rather like a kettle these days, most noticeable cruising around 50 mph. Only noticeable with the roof up, which is rare, so I've no idea how long it's been doing it for.

Replaced the oil, which has made it slightly quieter, but no real difference.

I'm not entirely convinced it was replaced at 27,000 - it was a bit burned-smelling and -looking for 10,000. But that was a couple of years back.

The metal paste on the drain plug magnet is to be expected, it's why it's there!

It's slightly awkward to re-fill (since the subframe's in the way) so I'd imagine many cars have not had it done at the correct service interval.

Peter, happy for you.

I took my car back to a another place that specialises in driveshafts and diffs and stuff and the guy diagnosed the probem as a crown and pinion that is worn, he is pretty sure and has given honda all the parts he needs

Now Honda must just quote for the many parts needed in the job and i will know how much it will cost. Hopefully not too bad.

I diff from the UK sounds easiest but... lets wait and see.
