Sorry to go off topic.....but what i object to is motorcycles not bothering to drive in the lane of traffic like everyone else but to create their own lane thru the traffic and they wonder why they get knocked off...... stick to the rules...one lane of traffic, stay in lane.....two lanes of traffic, pick a lane and stay behind the other vehicles...queue of traffic, get in lane and wait like everyone else....
Ok.....

Now mother and baby spaces should be abolished. Is it my fault they chose to have a kid and now need more space to get in and out of the vehicle.

Have you tried getting a young kid into a car in a normal sized space? It's barely possible; they'd end up reversing out into the carpark to get kid in car, blocking up the carpark and causing chaos.

What we actually need are parking spaces of a decent size for everybody; then we wouldn't need specialist mother/baby spaces, and we could actually open a car door with more than an inch gap to squeeze out of !

yes i have.

You're right we do need extra wide spaces but then that would take up more land and people would still complain.

What bugs me is just because people choose to have kids they get to park in large spaces near the door at supermarkets. They don't have this option when parking on a street etc so why need them at a supermarket? What makes them so special? Never had them when I was a kid and my mum went shopping with us in the car.

Now why would they? Seems eminently reasonable to me. Good use of space.
BTW I'm not a biker - a little envious at times of this ability to progress tho'.

P's me off too

I don't resent them having bigger spaces, cos otherwise it is a total nightmare, but I do resent them being nearer the shop!

Did anybody see that Simpsons episode where Bart went out and re-painted all the carpark lines closer together, so nobody could get out of their cars

Multistorys are the answer!

Do they give larger car parking spaces to huge people?(not that i have anything against huge people i'm just using it as an example)

No they don't....but they need extra room so maybe they should.
"Big people spaces" - the rules are: you can only park here if you're huge and eat lots of donuts

because they should follow the highway code...the rules of the road.....just like a car driver shouldn't overtake on a bend, or overtake if double white lines in the road...i know some do but from what i can see all motorcylists use the middle of lanes as the norm (ie..they're allowed cos its what bikes do )

Sorry to take this off topic but it bugs me..

Please continue with the original topic......Graham its your turn to post

Have you never heard of "filtering"? Ignorance is bliss I guess.

No, nor tall people, people with 2 door cars (longer doors), people with wide cars (X5's), or stupid people, hence a requirement for slightly wider spaces in general

But seeing as, as you point out, we can't have that they provide wider spaces for disabled people, and people with kids. Otherwise you'd be moaning that some mother dinged your door trying to get her kid into the babyseat, or that they were blocking up the carpark causing traffic jams, cos they hae to reverse out into the carpark to open the door to get the little darling in.

Don't get me wrong, I dno't like children, but I do sympathise with parents.
