Not at all, I'm just trying to figure out why I (and Scov) spotted, and thought to mention, the fact that the tat-bedecked car in the sightings thread was parked in a disabled spot.
Err!

I also spotted it a bit further up the thread.

I have no objections to disabled people driving or being a passenger in any car.

What I do object to is people that think that there car is so precious that it is OK for them to park it in the bigger disabled spaces or across 2 spaces.

I rarely park in disabled spaces (the exception being late at night when there are dozens empty at the supermarket, and even then I would take the one furthest from the store)

I prefer mother and baby spaces - they are nice and big and you don't need two of them

Two spaces isn't always an issue if the car park is practically empty. I have parked over two spaces at the far end of the car park before, because I know what few cars WILL turn up will park next to mine rather than the rest of the empty car park. Lol and behold I come back later to find several cars around mine fortunately with no door dents because they have enough space in the painted square boxes to open their doors completely without bashing mine.

On the disabled note, the stickered S did have some sticky out reflector bumpers on the door, I guess this was so they could open their doors completely without chipping the paintwork or damaging the car next to them.

What would be good would be for parking spaces to get wider so it is possible to open your door without the risk of bashing the next car.

So the badge is based upon your ability or your passangers ability to walk any distance?
Actually you have got it completely wrong!

The issuing of disabled badges is made on a number of criteria. The first one is whether you are receiving any form of Disability benefit. Then it is more or less automatic that you will get a Blue Badge.

However, there are others, who because of certain medical conditions also qualify. They have to obtain a recommendation from their GP which is vetted by the Authorities before a badge is issued.

As many may know I am one of the two oldest owner/drivers of an S2000 in the UK. Those who have met me will probably think what a fit chap he is. But there lies the rub I ALSO HAVE a Blue Badge issued by the relevent department after consultation with my GP.

The moral for all those sceptics being, what you see on the surface is not neccessarily what is under the water!

Blue Badges are abused by some people, and they just give those honest users a bad reputation.

Sorry to go off topic.....but what i object to is motorcycles not bothering to drive in the lane of traffic like everyone else but to create their own lane thru the traffic and they wonder why they get knocked off...... stick to the rules...one lane of traffic, stay in lane.....two lanes of traffic, pick a lane and stay behind the other vehicles...queue of traffic, get in lane and wait like everyone else....

on topic: I think of the blue badges as an aid to people who for medical reasons have a bit of trouble getting about. My mum has a blue badge. She doesn't claim disability....she claims motability....its to keep her mobile....get her out and about.....without which she'd be house bound.

Those people who use the "blue parking" spaces without an official badge should be ashamed of themselves. Who is to say why someone has been issued a blue badge. The fact is they have one and that space should be left for their use.

Now mother and baby spaces should be abolished. Is it my fault they chose to have a kid and now need more space to get in and out of the vehicle.
