Default DIY wheel refurb

Hi

I'm going to attempt a rim refurb and respect DIY style using spray cans.

Watched enough YouTube videos to have an idea, and am going to do a sand down, primer, paint and lacquer job.

Any recommendations on specific paints to use, or brands?

dont you want to try plastic dip first? so if you don't like the colour you can go back the original colour?

Do it properly and get them powder coated
Spraying them yourself isn't going to be very durable
First tyre change there is a very good chance it will lift

Wheels are in such a bad state that they require a re spray in any event, so would be painting standard silver and the plasti-dipping black...

Maybe that's not such a bad idea

Rattle can paint and lacquer will not be very durable at all (unless you can bake it but even then....) For a good coating of primer, paint and lacquer you'll probably end up paying well in excess of £50 (not to mention all the prep work and time involved!!) Why not add the extra £150'ish and get them powder coated? That'll last years unlike the paint which will last no time at all IMO

Yeah mine lifted, I did a DIY, having said that if you know you're not going to change your tyres for a couple of years, it will last that long at least. My wheels still look good but not perfect now the trye fitters have been at 'em

I did some on my old astra coupe T with rattle cans, then sold the car, still 3 years on they're looking well!

The key is good prep, wipe them down, and get a cheap strip heater while curing and they'll come out nice and glossy

Cost about £20 per wheel with all materials involved.
