Ratchet it over the top of your current bonnet with foam and cloth?

surprised it took so long for someone to come up with this sensible answer!

This is what I would do. Stick one bonnet on top of another, bungee cord it if you have to and just take it easy. Or lower the roof and rest it over the windscreen / roll hoops?

You guys really need to be a bit more daring with your carrying - I've carried all sorts of crap stuck out the top of convertibles that were way too big to fit in them

Driving without a bonnet would be driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

If you alter the car or remove something so that it it more likely to cause injury to someone if you are driving and the vehicle were involved in a collision then you commit the offence.

Clearly with the bonnet removed hitting a pedestrian is not going to be good. If stopped you would no doubt get a prohibition notice too - meaning you can't continue to drive it in that condition.

I wouldn't, you can hire a van for a day for less than 30 quid nowadays... Definitely not worth the risk of damaging your car for that.

Paisley freight have very good rates, probably less than £40 for a bonnet to be delivered

All depends on how strict your police are. I've driven for a couple days without a hood with no problems. If the cops in your area are laid back then you'll be fine
