Default Driving today

I had a meeting in Stockport this morning so I drove the normal boring route there (though Chesterfield), but the meeting finished early, so although the weather was awful I decided to risk the Cat and Fiddle road and go for a little detour through Buxton.

The rain got heavier and the conditions were terrible! I didn't even consider VTEC, and managed to slide the backend in 3rd gear at low revs - there may have been some diesel on the road. Apart from that it was a nice drive, and I am now keen to have a blast on a dry day, its been a year or two since I was last there.

Here are some pics (taken with camera phone so poor quality!):

On the way out of Chesterfield I was doing 70-75 mph on a dual carriageway that seemingly had little or no standing water, then suddenly from nowhere (it seemed) there was loads and I knew there was no way to slow, I managed to vrey gently bring it back from 75 to 70 and braced as I went through, the front moved to the left and then I felt the right move the opposite way every so slightly. I kept the accelerator applied gently so I was not accelerating. It went through and then straightened out. I think if I had not noticed and either accelerated or braked and may have span. It felt like a crab going through.

Two lessons learned today, always ensure that you are straight when acclerating in the very wet, even if not in VTEC and at low revs, and to take more care in the very wet conditions. Great car though

Do U think those lessons go for any car in those conditions?

errr no!

In any front wheel drive it is possible to acclerate in a corner in the wet, and in the S3 you can acclerate quite hard. In a rear wheel drive car with no TC and S02's its a different matter, just been a while since I drove in conditions like that.

Would have probably been more enjoyable in the S3 due to the conditions, but the S2000 is far more fun. The only time I ever get worried in the S2000 is with standing water, its scary stuff. Hope there are no 'offs' in the current crazy weather. Its not stopped raining for 2 days here.

doesn't look like it will improve until after the weekend thanks to the backed of the hurricane that hit the states earlier this week! Not a problem for me as the S has the bumper off and a head light out to solve the condensation in it once and for all! Plus I'm getting front & rear spoilers and the head light washers sprayed at the same time
