Default Engine Bay Cleaning

Finally decided I am going to clean the engine bay for the first time tomorrow.

Is it just a case of covering the exposed electrics, battery, MAP etc... then spray some Halfords stuff all over, give it a bit of a rub and rince down with a low power hose??

Any advise welcome

I have used Gunk, soak for 10 mins, and then jet power wash off. It has given me excellnt results too!

Don't worry about covering anything, as long as you don't point the lance at anything electrical for LONG (>3 secs) periods of time, you'll be fine.

I have jet washed LOADS of engines and they have all been fine.

*Note* that you may have some squeaky belts for a few mins afterwards!

And I think you've left it still attached to your engine

engine bays can be a PITA to clean. Only thing to add to above it agitate any dirt with a brush and finish it off with some dressing such as meguiars hyper dressing.

My Dad uses Gunk, I used the Autoglym engine cleaner, worked at a little with a brush for a dustpan & brush set (nice long bristles for those hard-to-reach places!). Then I spray, whilst still wet, with the autoglym vinyl & rubber care. Seems to stay clean for weeks/months, even in bad weather. I think the plastic undertray on the engine bay has something to do with it.
