Engine light on
I have an X reg year 2000 S2000 that had a spun big end bearing. As a result I have put a new engine out of a 2005 model in. Great you say? Only problem is, now when I put my foot down and reach 6k on the rev counter, rather than the vtech kicking in, the engine light comes on and puts it in to limp mode. I had a friend look at it and it came up crankshaft sensor on his computer. I changed this but it still does it. When the engine was changed, I had to use my old head cover as the new one only had 1 cam sensor and my ecu has 2. I have put the 2nd pick up in place as well. Any ideas will be helpful.
Not sure, but there are several prerequisites for vtec to engage...
Off the top of my head
Rev's greater than 5800RPM
Sufficient oil pressure, which is determined by the VTEC pressure switch - i broke one once and vtec wouldn't engage!
Actual oil in the engine of course
TPS > 60% IIRC
Coolant temp =3 bars or IIRC >80c
You must be actually moving
Load dicated by the map sensor - dont know what it is
Saying that it maybe a red herring and you may have issues with ECU's/engine as some members have found out, there not all 100% compatible with all of the years EG 2006 engine with a 2000ECU etc.

The 2 sensors you mention are tdc sensors, the later engine only has one on the exhaust cam, you may have to change the inlet cam to give your second sensor something to read.
It's an issue I have but the opposite mine is a 2 sensor engine going into a 1 sensor car/ loom. I am hoping that the exhaust cam sensor is the same on both engines. Otherwise I may have to change the exhaust cam on my engine.
Let us know how you get on. I for one would be interested in the results.

If you recently had an engine change, check the knock sensor didnt get damaged. This is very common when gearboxes are removed and if its been damaged. I would have thought this would have thrown its own code rather than a camshaft sensor one, though its kinda all to do with timing....
What Mr-Pitts is saying re the sensors on the cam really makes sense as well.
