Default Engine management warning light

Have many of you had problems with this light coming on?

It has happened twice to me in as many months - (car only 3 mths old).

The first time the dealer said it was caused by multiple misfiring which they put down to me buying Sainsburys petrol (only place locally I can get super unleaded) - they added fuel treatment and reset the system.

On Hogmanay the light came on again, and the car had to return home on the back of a flatbed (170 miles away).

The AA/Honda Assist have no idea what is happening as they cannot access the diagnostics, and I will have to wait until the dealer checks it next week

In the, meantime I shall take out my revenge on the free hire car for the next 3 days - can you do 9000 revs in a Fiat Cinquicento ?

I dont think that the petrol is the problem. There is a rumour that supermarket petrol is not as good as Esso or Shell or whatever, but my local Tesco, gets filled by an Esso tanker from Grangemouth, so go figure.

Did you try resetting the ECU by pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery...this usually fixes it (temporarily?). I'm sure I have seen this posted before or maybe it is a FAQ.

The dealer will probably replace the ecu, so I'm sure it will be fine when you get it back.

This has happened twice to my car, the first was water in a wiring connection the second was the spark plug recall had not been done and a plug had started to act up. That reminds me the letter from Honda for the oil plug recall has not arrived
ps the petrol one is real bullshi*t from the dealer

I used Sainsbury's Super Unleaded for about the first 6 months of my cars life before converting to the holy grail that is Optimax and never experienced this problem so I think the petrol story is a bit suss!!.

You can have fun trying

Perhaps you could find someone else who owns one, find a bit of dual carrridgeway with roundabouts at each end and race around like scaletrix cars

I used BP Super Unleaded then Optimax when it came out - no problems yet (fingers firmly crossed).

The petrol thing is total rubbish. In fact most petrol is exactly the same, it all comes from the same tankers. I work near Buncefield petrol place where the tankers fill up, coming out of there I have seen:

Tesco
Sainsburys
Esso
BP
Shell
Texaco
and others

Don't tell me they all store different brands of petrol in the tankers! Its all the same the branding is just the marketing spin

Anyone in the industry care to shed some light?

There must be exceptions for certain fuels though? e.g Optimax must come in a diff tanker (or separate part of the tanker etc.). I think some other petrol companies deal with their own 'unique' fuels (leaner diesels etc.)
