My car had the misfire problem straight after the spark plug / oil bolt recall... It had also had another clutch replacement at the same time (4th clutch).

It was towed 30 miles back to Brindley Honda in Cannock - they informed me that I had run the petrol too low.... My response - B*llshit. There were two bars left on the display before the AA towed it, and even when I picked the car up from the dealer, I could only get 44 litres into the tank.

My confidence is at an all time low in both the car and the dealership network. The latest clutch replacement has definitely messed up my 2002 alignment (apparently the subframe is dropped during the clutch job) - the front of the car feels very unstable, and the steering wheel is now not straight.

Quality.

Did you try resetting the ECU by pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery...this usually fixes it (temporarily?).

Euan,

I had a problem with my last S2k around this time of year. The car sat outside overnight and in the morning it fired up on 3 cylinders only. It cleared very quickly but not before the dash warning light came on (the lamba sensor noticed the raw fuel I guess)

I switched the car off and restarted (no problem) but the warning light stayed on. So I briefly disconnected the battery terminals. This cleared the warning light and I had no further problems.

Colin

PS I also run about in old cars. I had an XM estate which was worth less than its catalyser - so when it lapsed onto 3 cylinders I just drove it home (I was late picking up the kids). You could read a newspaper by the light coming from under the car - you don't want to do this to an S2000.

a friend's micra had some problems in the first 40K miles.
When an independent engine technician looked at it he asked whether they used supermarket fuel.

As the answer was yes, he suggested to my friend that he's probably knocked 20K miles off the life expectancy of the micra's engine because of it.

is this because it's 'dirty' fuel?, thing is I'd have thought if it were really that crappy there would be stuff in the magazines but I've never seen anything mentioned apart from the Evo test on Optimax which I put in regularly

funny thing is that since the 2000 miles I have been sticking Optimax in the car is feeling faster and faster. It make me wonder what the previous owner fed it

Zero, what was the mileage when you got it and how many more have u added ?
My car 's engine seems to get stronger the more miles she puts on. Other owners have experienced the same up to 15K.

mine had 8500, now got 11,500 and I've had it 5 months

The revs seem to be heading towards 9000rpms at a quicker rate than before and I keep getting caught out hitting the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd - Indeed a following car at the mini-meet heard it hit the limiter. It just seems to spinning up more quicky from 6000rpms

It's due an oil change at 12,500 and may do it myself

It has happened twice to me in as many months - (car only 3 mths old).

The first time the dealer said it was caused by multiple misfiring which they put down to me buying Sainsburys petrol (only place locally I can get super unleaded) - they added fuel treatment and reset the system.

Matey, I had the same problem and my 'S' is about the same age as yours!

It's all sorted now and from what I can gather it's tied in to the kangeroo problem I was having! As the motor would struggle to pull then the ECU light would come on, I did drive the motor to the garage with the light on and everything still worked ok!

The problem was caused by water tracking down the wiring loom around the gearbox (I think)! It may be worth calling my dealer to find out some more details so that you can pass them onto your own dealer matey! I use Fish Brothers in Swindon (although I live in Oxford!), if you want some contact details then let me know and I'll put you to the right geezer
