Evening,

Long time lurker deciding to finally make an account and get more active.

The community surrounding s2000s is absolutely fantastic and I can't wait to be a part of it.

The first time I was introduced to the car was back in '07 when a buddy of mine bought an AP1. Even though I was only a passenger at the time, I still remember the drive vividly.

...I've always said that 'one day I'll buy that car' but I've always prioritised other purchases above an S2K, and I’m particularly sure why.

During the end of last year I made a promise to myself that I'd dig my heels in and bite the bullet. There’s certainly something majestic about it.

Having saved up the cash to buy, I'm eagerly waiting for the dream to pop up on Autotrader.

Ideally I'd love an GPW AP2, 06+, as OEM as possible, with less than 40k miles. The only part I'd be willing to compromise on is the interior colour - not quality.

Unfortunately it looks like I've got expensive taste. Depending on what pops up I'd be willing to shell out a fair bit to get that.

How long did you guys wait until your dream came up?

On a side note, I’d be keen to add a topic on the “WTB” section of these forums but it looks like I don’t have the right privileges.

Hopefully the wait won’t be too late. I look forward to sharing the experiences!

-Flukez.

Welcome and good luck with the search.

What these guys are referring to is that in Europe we only got the AP1 (AP2 is the 2.2 version in the US) so it's referred to as Pre-Facelift and Facelift here.

Thanks for the insight.

Excuse my ignorance but just for clarity, my interpretation is that the main differentiating factors between the AP1 vs AP2 was that the AP1 has the 9k redline, the AP2 has the 8k redline.

I opted for an "AP2" or a MY06+ for the safety features given that I'm not experienced with RWD and cosmetically it’s more appealing to me.

Would I be correct in saying that if I was to get an 06+, I'd have the aesthetic updates, the 9k redline alongside the added security controls? That would be like winning the lottery!

If you mean Traction Control (VSA) it was an option on some of the later cars, so you won't find it on all Facelifts by default https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/102...ction-control/

But yes, a UK '06 with optional traction control will give you the 9K (technically it's 8900rpm) redline with facelift styling.

All UK cars are technically "AP1" as they all have the 2.0l engine which revs to 9,000rpm. The US got a 2.2l engine (AP2) in 2004 and Japan got that in 2006.

In the UK there were 6 versions based on model year (MY00, MY02, MY04, MY06 and MY08) - they all have different wheels as well as cosmetic and chassis/suspension equipment changes.

MY04 was the facelift that matches the AP2 in looks of the US cars, so anything newer than that is known as a "facelift"
