Default Flashing engine management light-HELP!

Hi all, thanks to the amazing success of a new roof from recommendations by yourselves......I'm back asking for your help again.

This morning my engine management light came on, it is flashing rather than permanently on. After looking into this, someone on this forum has said DO NOT DRIVE IF FLASHING.

Any ideas as to why? Am I about to foot a big bill?!!

Don't drive it (Or start it) and find someone with a code reader sharpish.

Flashing means a misfire, which is supposed to kill your cat if you drive too long like that. Though I have to say I think the warnings are a little OTT; I had mine misfiring on and off all the way back from Belgium once, and nothing terrible happened.

But really you should have it transported to a garage.

Did you not notice anything when driving?

It was sluggish in low gears and seemed to not pull away, I am also conscious that I was driving it conservatively because of the light- it certainly didn't seem right.

It won't be right, it's in 'limp mode' and won't come out of it until the fault is cleared. Without a code reader you're guessing, for the sake of £25 - they are worth buying and keeping in the car.

Have you got AA / RAC membership - their staff will be equipped with those readers.

I wouldn't drive it unless I knew what the fault was.

A misfire can be something simple (failed coil pack for example) or it can be the result of something not so good which further driving will cause damage.

It's booked into the garage this afternoon, fingers crossed :S

What's the code reader that's been mentioned for £25?! I would possibly be interested in one for peace of mind?

https://www.s2ki.com/...lt-code-reader/

There's two types - the one I have works fine on mine but doesn't work on earlier cars or anything post 2006 if you wait - someone with the same year car as yours will post up what they have - between £25 and £50 but when you consider Honda will charge you at least £50 to read the code - it is money well spent.
