Bear in mind that a supermarket car parking bay is 2400 wide , thats just a tad under 8'

I think 2750 is the minimum to shoot for if you can , 3m starts to become ideal

As somebody else has already mentioned , decide on a garage door width and its positioning in the face of the garage , slightly off centre would be good to allow for storage down one side

As for length , parking bays are 4800 normally .

I consider 5500 to be a minimum

Don't forget to allow a little extra for the passenger's wing mirror sticking out - you can't flip it closed while reversing in, unlike the driver's side mirror. And allow a bit for turning the car parallel: while doing so you need extra width.

Is that really the size of a standard garage in the UK?

Speed_bump: no such thing as a standard size. There's small and smaller. This is a small island

grahamb: I find I have to take both feet off the pedals to reach over to close the passenger mirror, which isn't easy (clutch out/engage neutral, brake/stop car) in mid reverse. Hence I say don't. And as said you need the mirror to see

And I'm over here bitching because the one at my current house is only 20ftx20ft. I better not let the wife see that people survive with those.
