Default Gear Issue

My S2000 is having problems changing gear, its always been notchy putting it into 2nd but apparently they all do this.

Today my wife driving down the motorway was having difficulty changing into 3rd with the gear box warmed.

Also getting to work she couldnt get it into reverse.

Its now apparently sounding very crunchy going into all gears.

The car is just over 100k miles so I am guessing it could be the gear box giving up.

Could it be the clutch?

More likely the gear box?

What are the likely costs of both ?

Should I trade the car in and move on ?

Gearbox had an oil change to Motul about a year ago to help notchy 2nd.

Firstly, have you experienced all of the above symptoms whilst 'you' have been driving the car?

It could well be the clutch, when was that last changed? Try greasing the clutch fork and changing all fluids again just to rule that out before thinking about bigger and more expensive things ie; gearboxes!

This car is my wifes daily drive and she has experiance the issues only recently, I havent driven it yet with these issues.

I am not sure if the clutch has been changed or not, it hasnt in the last 30k miles thats for sure.

Its going into the a local garage at 3pm to a guy that owns drives S2000's and NSX's so hopefully he will say its the clutch, but surely the clutch would start slipping, there is absolutly no slipping what so ever.

If it was the gearbox it would surely be making a hell of whining noise if about to give up the ghost. Fingers crossed for you!

No whining noises but a metalic rattle has been heard recently at certain revs.

It went into the garage last night but he couldnt have a proper look at it as the ramp that fits the s2000 was in use.

He had a drive and look over the car and thinks its something to do with the hydraulics ??

The clutch pedel falls very easily for the majority of the travel and only the last 2-3cm's gets any resistance.

He is taking it back in on monday and will give a full report but wont actually be able to do any work on the car for 2 weeks as he is that booked up with work.

Any further ideas on cause or cures for this ?
