Default Gearbox / Diff DIY change

I need to get my gearbox oil and diff oil changed. Has anybody done this themselves using only a set of axle stands? How easy is it to get to the gearbox?
I tried to buy the diff oil from the Honda garage in Macclesfield and they tried to sell me the CRV stuff that wrecks the diff. If I hadn't read the stories on here I'd have gone home and used it. For this reason I'm not too keen on taking it to a Honda garage to get it done.
How much should I expect to pay a garage to do it if I supply the oil?

It's a bugger to get enough torque on the various bolts/plugs just on axle stands. I've had it done a couple of times and it's just so much easier to take it to a cheap indepedant and get it up on a ramp. For a gearbox change expect about

I did my diff on axle stands, it is eas. you would benefit from a small pump of some sort, i used a little fluid pump that attaches to a drill, it made it a lot easier.

Are you in Macc?

I have a set of 4 axle stands and have been meaning to do mine. I was going to order the fluids from Opie. Bring it round and we'll do one after t'other..

There's some photos half way down the page for both gearbox and diff.

For the gearbox, it's relatively easy to use 'Gravity' to refill the oil, but it would be easier to use the pump for the diff.

Also for the diff, i believe you need some weird size socket (23mm/24mm) for the drain bolt and refill bolt.

Give me 45 mins, and i'll have the engine, gearbox, and diff oil changed for you. Bit longer for the clutch fork and fluid. Clutch fluid is a bit of a PITA on axle stands!

The longest part is wating for the old oil to drain!!

That is on axle stands too.

MotoGP1 (Rich) is coming around to get his done in the next couple of weeks.

As such, he can hold the camera and i'll do a couple of video guides again

Cheers for the replies everyone. I don't live in Macc but was working in Leek for a couple of weeks so used my own car rather than the company one as I had to drive through Macc and onto Leek and I love that road.
I'm going to ring a couple of garages tomorrow. If I supply the oil I think I would rather just pay for an hours labour than mess around myself. If it was just the gearbox I would buy some tube and a funnel to do it myself but although I'm generally ok with doing stuff myself I always seem to come out with very little skin left on my hands and bruises all over my back whenever I do anything under this car.
I serviced my wifes Focus this weekend and it was joy to work on compared to my S - I didn't even need to use the jack to change the oil and still have all the skin on my hands. I didn't find anywhere that the correct tool wouldn't fit.
(Just had had a though - is there a drain hole in the well at the bottom of the boot? If so I could feed the tube through that to refill the diff? I'm off to check).
