Default Gearbox woes

At the end of the day at Rockingham a couple of weeks back I was struggling to get the car into the higher gears, and this has continued. It's not too terrible, but sometimes getting 4th, 5th and 6th means me being quite brutal with it, but sometimes it's okay. Not the slick gearbox it's meant to be for sure.

I was hoping this would be the same minor clutch issue I had before - i.e. the pedal pivot being loose and the fluid being knackered, but I've been to Honda this morning and they've suggested it's an internal gearbox fault and needs a new one - a snip at only

My gearbox locked solid in 6th recently. I looked into having it stripped and rebuilt, but gearsets from Honda were a couple of hundred each plus all the labour on top. I ended up buying a 25,000 mile box from Fenlands as it worked out much cheaper and quicker.

Maybe a bit far for you but I can recommend an excellent gearbox and differential specialist garage in Chessington, Surrey. They replaced worn, v noisy bearings in my gearbox a year ago for a reasonable price and done a very good job.

Think I mentioned reciently (on Tangoman's thread) that the box is found in a few other cars.

Maybe there is a cheaper option.

Not sure I fancy a Sylvia gearbox. But useful information from Tango's thread, thanks.

Are all the gearboxes the same? I assume my JDM is the same as the UK spec, what about the MY04?

Think the 04 got revised ratios .. but not sure about the AP2 either.

The S15 would be good, as it'll be beefier I'd have thought. The IS200 is pretty lightweight, at it's only a 150bhp car. The RS version was 210bhp, but like the S, no torque.

Yep, MY04 is the way forward - better synchro between first and second, I believe
