Default Head Gasket Failed oh no!

After only owning the car for a month, I took it along to my local garage and after performing a cylinder leak test (I think) we have confimed the head gasket has blown on cylinders 3 and 4

I noticed not long after getting the car (Typical) that I had cel light on and I honestly thought it was to do with a faulty coil pack! how wrong could I be!

All in all its going to cost me £900 which i think is resonably to get it all done, but man! did not want this, I'm hoping my S2000 ownership wont be filled with constant problems

Thanks

John Harris

Do you know why it went?

How many miles has the engine done?

Been overheated?

That's the first head gasket i've heard of that's failed on an S2k.

What the symptoms?

You must be the first with a stock engine

I'm just going to do a search and see it I can find another head gasket failure. I honestly can't remember anybody posting something similar... well since I've been on here at least!

Oh thats very rare on a stock engine, was it caused by Thermostat failure or run low on water?

Think of it as an opportunity to fit a thinner one to raise compression.

Or a thicker one and justifiy that by putting a Blower on £900 for a replacement head gasket sounds a bit steep to me.

Hi Andy
What area are you in?

The price you quoted is too much. On top of that how quick did the PSI drop on the leak down? What brought you to even considering doing this test? Have you even considered it could be due to an exhaust valve leaking pressure not the Head Gasket? Did you find a strange colour or combustion gasses in the cooling system causing pressurisation and the AST having air pushed into it (like bubbling sound)?

If you're in London I can send you to someone (who was a highly regarded Seat WRC Head technician) who is very reasonably priced (because he is a good friend of mine).. I think what you have been told may not be your problem and at least get a second opinion from someone qualified to say so. (no offence but some people just run garages without really knowing what they are doing.. you may end up spending a lot of money for nothing and being quite disappointed.)

Let me know
