Help and advice needed! - J's Tsuchinoko Install
Hi all,
I have FINALLY had my J's racing Tsuchinoko intake delivered, and thought that I would be able to do the install myself (having done a few induction kits in my time), but this thing is freaking me out, and wondered if someone more knowledgable than I could help me out?
I have a few issues that I need to get my head around. The main one is the fact that it appears that the set of 4 metal pipes connecting vacuum hoses to various parts of the intake/sensors needs to come out. Am I right in thinking that I can remove this, so long as I fit lengths of hose to keep the same configuration?
Secondly, and this may only be able to be answered by someone who actually has the kit - the large pipe that connects directly to the throttle body has two connections for larger pipes, but only the inner one has a metal connector - the outer one is just a rubber bung with a hole. Is this correct, or is there the metal connector piece missing? I hope not, as I had to wait 2 and a half months for the kit, so gawd knows how long a replacement part would take!
I did have other questions, but these will do for now.
Thanks in advance for any help that you may be able to give!

Hi,
I've fitted a couple of these but not sure from your descriptions which bits you are struggling with?
Your best bet is to look at pics of other installs. There's a DIY here although it's not too detailed:

Some pics of my old car here:

Only thing is with mine, ignore the engine breather pipe configuration. I just had mine open to atmosphere, but it is supposed to connect into the big hole on the intake, just next to the throttle body. I think the J's kit comes with a bung for that hole on the intake, in case you have an oil catch can, but also comes with a fitting in case you need to use that hole to connect your breather pipe.
You can see it blanked off here with yellow cable tie:

This pic is a good one to show how the big air pump hose connects in, on the right. Can't rememebr if the OEM brass fitting adapter is reused or not, but knowing J's, it comes with a new one. I think the kit also comes with a bung as a lot of people remove the air pump system when using aftermarket ECU.
Also in the pic you can see the car has an oil catch can fitted, so ignore the crank case breather hose configuration, unless you have one!

The vac sensor lines are just replaced with the J's hoses.
Good luck cutting the bonnet!

Thanks for the help! The only thing I can gather from the japanese instructions is that the pipe that you have said should be blanked, should connect with a piece of hose supplied. TBH, every pic I have seen of a Tsuchinoko install has been totally different, which is just confusing me even more. The only constant is that the block of 4 metal pipes is removed and replaced with vacuum hoses. I'm not sure that every variant of S2000 even has this block of pipes.
I'm also pretty sure that the intake only came with one metal connector for the large pipe running from the crank case - the one on the outside is just a rubber seal with a hole in it. Not sure how to connect the hose if this is the case.
I don't need to cut the bonnet, as I just fitted a J's type V with some rain protectors. That I DID manage to install!

Maybe send Pharrel a PM . He is from Belgium and installed his intake not long ago

It doesn't matter in tou remove the 4 metal pipes (in fact I think you may have to for the cran case breather) but the supplied hoses must be connected. Those lines are vacuum and air pump related.
All pre 06 cars have the 4 pipes. I'm not aure about the VSA models though.
I could install if if I could see it! Tricky over the web though.
Have you looked at re-using any of the brass adapters from your OEM airbox? There are 2 holes in your new airbox which need hoses connecting, the big air pump one at the bottom right, and the crank breather at the top left. Both should have a bung and adapter.
I'm sure all the bits you need are there

Thanks again for the help chap.
From what you and Pharrell have told me, it does seem like I will need to re-use one of the connectors on the OEM intake hose. Whether this is expected, or I have parts missing, I don't know. I have been through everything included with the kit, and there is definitely only one connector, and it is already installed for the crank case breather hose. As I said, I will reuse the other from the OEM pipe.
The vacuum hose supplied with the kit is also no where near long enough to reconnect all of the pipes after removing the metal pipe spider. I have ordered some silicone hose to let me do this, so this area SHOULD be sorted now.
I am still concerned about the bracket that mounts the intake pipe to the chassis, but Pharrell has very kindly offered to take some pics of his install to help me out.
I think I'm pretty much there now, once the extra hoses arrive. I'll let you know how it goes when I install next weekend.
Thanks again!

It's weird, but when I placed it where I thought it was supposed to go, it seemed to line up ok, but there was about a two inch gap between the top of the bracket and the bolt hole on the intake. I just couldn't figure out where I was going wrong.
