When did your Honda warranty expire? No chance you can continue it over, leave the car off the road for a month or two then claim on it?
its been over revved. The dealer will know that as soon as they plug in the diagnostics so any warranty claim will be rejected.

Can't the car just be run for 30 miles or something to overwrite that part of the history?

I think the brain remembers things like being over revved for a long time. It's not like re-learning the idle settings.

Has it ran low on oil?

I seen this on the yank forums, number 1 piston had picked up on the liner.

that over revs it and strainers the valve retainers. Som time later they give up and drop the valve in to the piston head for it :messy:

Check the compression on each cylinder, drop the oil and have a lookf ofr metallics.

I'd say you ought to be lookin for a late low mileage engine

Update. Honda have tried a new tensioner and bearings but no joy - they are reluctant to pull the thing apart due to costs.

I have found a very low mileage 2005 engine for

Those prices sound OK, The 05 will fit with your gearbox, but see if you can negotiate 2.5k including clutch and gearbox on the low mileage 05.

Which breaker?

2. is there any value in my engine if stripped (i.e are the breakers shafting me?)
3. should I negotiate with Honda on swapping costs or take to a different garage (I dont know any mechanics)
1. to the engine yes, to the prop-shaft no.
2. S2000 engine is Aluminium so its high in scrap metal value.
3. If you're happy with Honda to do the work, leave it with Honda. (I would ask to speak to their engine builder personally...

I understand you will need to change the ECU if you use the post 04 engine.

My 02 27,000-miler runs like new, so I'd have no hesitation in recommending that route.

I subscribe to Mikey's theory; I believe constant bouncing off the limiter may cause metal fatigue in the exhaust valve heads. Although I now wonder if my bore might have been picking up a bit - the driveline 'lash' that I had before seems to have disappeared.
