Default Hesitation and MAP Sensor

I've not seen any mention of this issue on the UK web site, so this is a sanity check with the UK community. Driving in this morning and when moving into VTEC I noted hesitation a couple of times; very short but quite pronounced several times through the higher revs. I put it down to either hot weather or a poor batch of fuel (although it was filled with Optimax yesterday, my normal tipple) and it seemed to have cleared by the time I reached the office.
However, a search on the board suggests a possible fault with the MAP Sensor, whatever one of these may be.
So, to the question... Anyone in the UK had a similar problem and was it the MAP Sensor?
The other suggestions I have seen is low oil , which I will check this evening, but it was fine when I checked at the weekend.
Any thoughts or similar experiences?

It seems the fix is a sharp tap on the map sensor.

Do a search for it, you`ll find the answer to the situation you describe.

Paul, you may get some slight hesitation due to the weather but you will know if its Vtec hesitation. The map sensor sits on top of the manifold (look at the red cam cover....come forward and its on the RHS. Its the only blue thing in the engine bay. Its about 1" square and has MAP written on it).

Disconnect it, unscrew it and then tap it with the handle of a screwdriver.

Pop it back on and all should be well.

Really stupid question Paul, but did you have the aircon on at the time ?

Thanks for the replies. Answers to questions posed above and observations:
  • Checked the oil, about half mast on the dip stick which I have topped up this morning.
  • I have scanned the board for MAP sensor, so while I still have no idea what it does, I have seen the various suggestions.
  • Air Conditioning is for wimps! Well, I actually had it on this morning when the M25 went all stationary on me, but it was not on when the engine was hesitating yesterday.
  • And I have not had a recurrence since, despite a little . when a cheeky hot hatch cut me up.

So I guess my options are to blame the weather, take the MAP sensor off and set about it with a screw driver (why a screw driver?), abuse Honda into swapping the MAP sensor or just leave it and see if it happens again. I'll not have time to mess with it myself before the weekend, so I'll leave it for now.

And back to the original question, has anyone else in the UK had this problem? A quick scan of the board has shown a number of threads, but none of these seem to have UK contributors. Given we are developing an aging group of S's, mine is 3 in November, and the other posts suggest this problem occurs at 30-40K miles, I would have expected more reports on our board.

Again many thanks to all,
