We had a last model 2.2 Prelude - Fully Loaded - Lowered / Leather / 17'' wheels - F1 Tyres - Motegi Kit, the lot (it did cost 30k !) - It was a brilliant car - we ran it for about for few years whilst we had the S2 - I have to be honest, it could at times show the S a clean pair of heals - especially down damp country lanes !
We really do miss the Prelude - brilliant Vtec soundtrack - I can say though that I was never 'embarrassed' or caught out by a lack of power etc
Wouldn't mind getting hold of an imported 'S' version - 220 BHP + Limited slip diff - just to fool around in !

Hi there
I owned a 4th Generation 1993 Prelude UK model that has about 187BHP as STD. I modded this by placing an AEM CAI, Full S/S exhaust with CAT removed and removed about 30kg mass from the car. Also fitted light weight 7kg alloys with F1 tyres all round.
The result was an extremely fast car, it was pulling around 6.5s 0-60mph, 16s 0-100mph and just a shade under 15s for 1/4mile. Due to it been FWD it was easy to drive on the limit in more or less any kind of road conditions, it was an extremely fast car.
For instance I can hold of an m8's Vauxhall VX220 N/A even on twisty bits and on straights the Prelude was faster beyond say 90mph. My boss's Porsche Carrera 4 (380BHP ish new 052/053 model) would not get past until about 100mph say when we went up against one another from 30mph rolling starts. It was generally a very fast car, aided by the fact that I could drive it extremely fast and very well, me and the car were really in tune with oneanother, hence why it was able to give higher spec cars a run for their money, obviously me driving like a lune helped too.
I now drive a JDM S2000 which is stock and has around 250PS. Now unfortunately at the moment I do not have the experience to drive this car as fast as the Prelude, due to me been an RWD novice. But I would say the Prelude had more low down power compared to when the S2000 is warm or has been in traffic as the S2000 suffers real bad from heat soak I have noticed, even though I have a AEM V2 CAI on order. However the S2000 does seem faster once you get in the VTEC area and I am sure once I've learnt how to drive her properly it would spank my Prelude all over. As the S2000 does have like 5.5s 0-60mph and 14s for 100mph and 1/4mile.
What you have to remember is that on UK roads such small differences are not going to be so noticable, its when you get to the track with a good drive is when the S2000 shows its true ability.
If you really want a fast road car that will blitz most other cars then get something that is 4WD, has over 300BHP and weighs sub 1500kg and then you'll beat most things as you'll have awsome traction in nearly all conditions and it will not take much driver skill.
The S2000 is a very rewarding drive, as it takes good driver ability to make the most of it, oh and there is nothing better than having the roof down and hearing the engine on song at 9000RPM.

if your friends gear changes were perfect then it could be done.
about the flame, it could just be because he changed gear so quickly that some unburnt fuel sparked off the hot exhaust etc. has appened to me in my car, could just be the unburnt fuel form the quick gear change..

You only have to read a car mag or two to no know that when they take a selection of cars on group test they are always challenging each other whether in Mini or Zonda.
Evo had a car of the decade section this month and they said that the Porsche GT3 didn't have that much on the Impreza...if you'd paid

Having compared both cars on Patrick Glenn's Car Test (see link) they are a lot closer than I would have thought.
