Insurance/Alarm Question
I've been insuring my S2000 UK MY03 for 12 years now and i'm never sure of the answer to the following question:
What type of alarm does the car have?
No Security Device
Thatcham Approved Cat 1
Thatcham Approved Cat 2
Other
The 'Other' option lists four choices:
Has a factory fitted alarm and immobiliser
Has a factory fitted immobiliser
Has a non-factory fitted alarm and immobiliser
Has a non-factory fitted immobiliser
Could anyone please tell me unequivocally which of the above applies?
I have a horrible feeling that strictly speaking the answer is 'none of the above' i.e. has a non-factory fitted alarm and factory fitted immobiliser. Please tell me i'm wrong.

Thanks, that seems very straightforward and two of my fobs look like the one you've kindly pictured. However on another form i'm asked:
Is the vehicle fitted with an alarm? Yes/No - to which the answer is clearly 'yes', but the next question is:
Is the vehicle fitted with an immobiliser? And the three options are:
Manufacturer's Fitted/Other/No
So what would the answer be in this case? Presumably 'Other'?

Have checked with the Underwriters here in the office and the response was that provided the alarm was fitted to the vehicle when supplied by the dealer it will be classified as 'Has a factory fitted alarm and immobiliser' PROVIDED it meets the minimum standards required by the insurer (e.g. Thatcham approved Cat x). This might vary depending on your circumstances e.g if you live in a high risk theft area. Your policy will carry an endorsement if there is a deviation from the standard security expectation stated in the policy document/wording.
As I always advise in these situations, if in doubt, its better to check with the Insurer before you have cause to make a claim. less pain that way
