Default Insurance Question

Hi All,

Just a little worried that I may have my car insured incorrectly. As I understand Insurance Policies : To insure your car as an import it is considered to be a car that isnt UK Spec, is this correct ?

As my car is a European Import, full UK spec, I havent declared my car to be an import on my insurance policy. Is this right ?

Chris.

Im not sure Chris, I have a Jap import S2000 and mine is the same as the UK car except for the rear bumper(number plate) and I had to insure mine as an import with bigger costs, I would contact your insurance company and talk to them about it as it is beter to be safe than sorry , because nearly all insurance companies will try anything to get out of paying up if your beloved gets stolen or you bump it.

Depends who you insure with, Chris. This subject has come up before, and IIRC the concensus was that most insurers treated a UK-spec car sourced in Europe as being the same as a UK sourced car.

I queried it with Tesco, with whom I insure, and they said that they only treat Japanese imports differently.

Same as Direct Line, Privelege, Admiral, Elephant, and NU Direct. I got quotes from all of them when I renewed a few months back and all of them would insure it as if it were a UK car.
