Default Ipod Connection

Anyone tried one of these? I have a 2005 with the standard CD headunit. I have no idea where the CD changer normally goes, or if the car comes pre-wired. Is this a simple plug and play? Or do you need to rip the dash apart? Ideally I'd like to keep the ipod in the lower centre console section. It looks like this is a 3.5mm connection, so no charging or interface from the stereo of steering wheel controls but that;s ok I guess. Don't want to spend big money as I'll most likely change the head unit and speakers out at somepoint.

I had one by the same manufacturer, but I can't remember if it had identical connectors or not. It worked fine anyway.

You have to take the HU out to fit it, of course, which means pulling thye console trim and stereo door off, but it's nothing too awful........

Thanks, good to know. Do I need special tools to remove the headunit, or once the trim is off the headunit slides out?

Where did you run the ipod cable too?

No special tools needed at all, if anything, really easy removal compared to the more modern cars nowadays.

Nice simple guide here: http://www.fitaudio.com/?View=entry&EntryID=75

I've run my cable from behind the headunit, under the centre console and into the 'glove box', centre console can be removed just by prying up, no screws.

No special tools needed, the brackets that hold the HU in (visible once the door is removed) are fixed with screws.

I have my iPod (an antique G2 Nano) sitting on the transmission tunnel so I can control it by hand, even though I've got a direct control HU now, so I just ran the iPod connector cable out of the bottom of the dash where it meets the transmission tunnel, into the passenger footwell. It wouldn't be difficult to run the cable under the tunnel trim so you can have the iPod in the cubby though.........
