isle of man & s2000
Just returned from 4 days on the IOM in my s2000 - what an amazing place for driving that is.
600 miles in 4 days and the Island is only about 60 miles squared!
We had a 4 car convoy including 2 Subaru's and a Celica.
For those that don't know, the national speed limit applies sign means you can legally do whatever speed you can reach as there is no national speed limit. Fantastic feeling passing a police car (Accord Type R) in excess of 120mph!
Fantastic (very quiet) roads including the mountain and most of the TT circuit and more...
I'm just 2 months into s2000 ownership and have learnt enormously about the cars huge capabilities during this visit, tried a drag against one of the Subaru's (lightly modded) and the cars are virtually neck and neck for acceleration up to 110mph. (Although the Subaru had 20k on it and I'm just at 3k so perhaps there's more to come...) The Honda could carry more speed through the corners than the (well driven) scooby - what an awesome car.
If you've not tried it you need to!
David.

How much does it cost to get a car onto the IoM? I have rel's there so I am sure I can get some recommendations for accommodation
It's a lovely island (bound to be, my Father was Manx). I spent a week there in March 2001 with my family (wife's Civic plus 4 adults so no VTECing). Superseacat from Liverpool takes 2 1/2 hours but the restricted sailing times out of season meant leaving L'pool at 21.00 and returning from Douglas at 07.00.
Timings are better in summer (to end October) = 10.30 or 18.15 from L'pool and 07.00 or 21.30 from Douglas (2001 timetable).
Ferry website is www.steam-packet.com

"I've followed this 'meet' thread with envy because I knew I wouldn't be able to make a trip to the UK this year. However, if there is concern that future meets could draw up to 100 cars, would anyone be interested in doing that in the Isle of Man?
The MX5 owners were accomodated a few years back and if we plan it well, we may even get a road or two closed for a spell so we can have the exclusive use of the highway. Hillclimb anybody? Also, at the moment there is no national speed limit on open roads and we do have some fast and challenging roads. As the Island is relatively small we could cover most of it without having to put too many miles on the cars. There is also an airfield race track.
This would have to be put on next year, rather than this - that way we can have a shot at the road closings and getting some subsidised fares on the ferries - the tourist board here are always looking at special events as a way to boost the numbers. We may even be able to piggyback on some of the other motoring events organised here - for example, there is a mountain hillclimb this Saturday and a 3 Hills Challenge at another time of the year. Shame we don't qualify as historics (though same probably can't be said of some of the drivers I suppose) as there is a 3 day event in September comprising a hillclimb, a round the streets time trial and circuit racing
Just a tentative note, but pm me if you think it's worth bothering with.

So... what ever happened to "Man's Best" I wonder
Isn't it funny how people just disappear from the board..... What's happened to Magic Fingaz for example

[B]If you check back a while there was a thread on this. There was a guy on the board who either lived on the IOM, or who knew it well and had connections there. He said he could get sections of road blocked off for us and we were talking about having a SuperMeet there next May. I volunteered to host the site for it etc....
