Yes, they do a 6 speed manual, and yes I am sure they are quick in a straight line.....but.........but.............words are failing me again!!!!!! This is being suggested as a cheap alternative to a Boxter S!!!!

My favorite quote about the Camaro was something along the lines that a stallion could make love with the panel gaps!!!!!!!!

My dad taped the whole series so I watched them all over last Christmas. Funny watching him buy the engine - from donor 2 liter Sierra engine, to V8 and empty bank account

It's fun watching his instructor drive the car when it's finished... but I won't give any details away

BTW That guy then did a series building a light plane! I don't think he does much vetting these days!

Thanks for the interesting replies guys. By rawer I wasn't necessarily thinking totally stripped - the ITR is actually far more practical than the S2000, but it's certainly more raw.

I guess it's a pat on the back for Honda, for making the car involving enough for people to own them as fair weather/weekend cars, while people can still use them day to day.

It's still a bit strange though. I get more gearbox noise (due to location no doubt) that the ITR which had a lightened transmission. (No balance weights.). When stuck in slow speed town traffic, the S2000 doesn't feel as special to me. No character from the engine low down, and not as sharp to drive. Comes alive when you do push it, though I can't wait for my cooling bits to arrive as I'm sick of losing power during a long run.

I should be driving again in a day or so - recovering nicely, but having a break for driving gives a lot of thinking time

If I'm ever very rich (I'm not currently!) then I guess I'll need to get an Omatic. The top Omatic used the S2000 engine/gearbox, in a Caterfield type car weighing something like 600kg. Mad

Would I go rawer... er are we talking AC Cobra? We......ell my heart says 'Yes' but my head

Felt fine afterwards.

MY real issue with the test was the quoted price of the BoxsterS,

Brian,

based upon your experiences do you now regret buying the S2000? if you knew then what you know now would you have stuck with the ITR? or perhaps waited for the CTR?

Reading between the lines I get the impression your not totally convinced by the car and perhaps the ITR was more to your liking. I could of course be totally wrong.

My impression too Jason. Come on Brian, I know you've been unlucky with the car so far, but are you having second thoughts?

As some of you know I was a SAAB 900 owner prior to buying the S2000 (which is now my only car). I'd had 5 SAAB 900s over a 15 year period and so got used to MASSES of space - especially in the first 4 'classic' models.

When I bought the S2k I thought "God, can I live without all this storage and luggage space?" but found that half the stuff I carried around in the SAAB I didn't need - it's that old rule, stuff expands to fill the space available for it! -

In actuality, I find the storage spaces in the S2k more than adequate; I haven't had a problem getting shopping and if I ned to carry a big suitcase (as per my recent trip to Manchester airport) I have a boot rack which worked a treat.

Admittedly I used to have two dogs, but they're both gone now, and my kids are grown up, plus I've been through the boat and caravan phase of my life.

Like Cedric, things I used to collect I now have delivered (like a new mattress I bought recently) - it's just a matter of adjusting one's habits to suit.

So, all in all, I'm chuffed as a lark with the S2k (and my girlfriend worships it )

Pete
