K&N....
I have a K&N group A cone filter sitting in the garage from my old Escort Cosworth. I was toying with the idea of fitting it to the S but was wondering if it would harm the engine not being made for it specifically. The filter is huuuuge and am sure it wouldnt restrict the air or anything. Has anyone got any ideas if it would affect the car?
Cheers

It may but what would the point be, assuming it wont fit in the standard airbox? - it will be just sat drinking warm air!
If it did fit in the airbox, it may be too big to the point that the airflow around it is restriced from getting all over the cone.
Honda would have flowtested the filter / airbox combo, so best left alone. Its only about

It wont damage the engine as the ECU will compensate for any slight changes, it will probably give you a nice noise (nicer can be had with the correct application) and lose you a little power.
You could try and retro fit it in the stock air box perhaps? That would give the best results or make some DIY AEM piping and put it in front of the drivers side wheel, but youve gotta be on a serious budget to think about doing that, especially as some CAI's can be had from ebay for

The ECU can correct as long as you dont disturb the airflow over the MAP
Ive seen many an Impreza blow up from a badly designed intake! Prob not an issue here as you would have to keep the orientation the same I guess?
Only prob with retrofitting to the airbox, is as I put above - that the airsoak area / flow may be affected. If you go for in the wing, be careful of any vibrations etc.
Agree with HH though.
