Cheshire,

cheque is in the post now.

Just tried the car with the air box cover off, I must admit it sounds good but it doesn't feel as quick ? Also you get that whistling noise on idle? My question is if I cut away the partition in the air box to allow the air to flow better will there be any loss of performance? I know it will sound a bit better I prefer performance over sound?

thanks

i also think it feels like it is losing a little bit of power. however its still a very quick car so don't really need to extract every single bhp out of it especially living in london. i can't see why it would lose power with the lid off. as there is no cold air feed in the engine bay anyway! so if taking the lid off allows the filter to suck in hot air from the engine bay surely with the lid on it is still drawing hot air in from the engine bay. makes no sense to me why it is losing power. i plan to order a mugen cold air feed or snorkle device. anyone know where i can order one from in the uk?
regards ian

Airflow will travel through a greater area of the filter without the partition. I have a K & N filter, which because of the oil, gives a very good idea of where air is entering the filter - all on the top at the moment.

I think it may feel like its losing power because if the air box is off the filter just sucks air around it, where as if it on the air gets forced into it .I spose that's why so many people want the forced air induction mod as this pushes air into the filter rather than just letting it suck it in !!!!

has anyone cut the plastic radiator cover at the front of the car to allow cold air into the engine? i was thinking about doing this. and making a custom air intake? the other weekend i went to jap - speed racing in southampton. the guy there said they could look at building a custom intake for me. he said it looks like they engineered the standard air box like that to keep noise levels down. if i could get one made up would people be interested in one. i like the mugen one however i don't like the idea of cutting the bonnet! so if they can come up with something which looks good and gives you the option of keeping the original air box and most importantly its cheap say no more than
