Default Key Question

I got my S2000 new last year and was supplied with 2 keys. The main one is a remote one for opening doors and boot. The other one is just for the door lock and is manual. If I use this second key it opens the door and sets off the alarm which can only be stopped by using the main key. However the engine can be started, alarm still going. The dealer has told me that it is just an emergency key. Is this correct, or should I have been supplied with two remote keys.

Also when I open the garage door this sometimes triggers the alarm. Is this oversensitive?

Thanks in advance, Liz

Sounds like the key needs to be programmed. Your car should still be under warranty so a trip to your local dealer is the next step.

Two keys, Two remote fobs.

Unless opening your garage causes tremors or a minor earth quake it shouldn't set off the alarm.

All new s2s should have been handed over to the first owner with 2x keys (one with the S2000 logo) the second just a plain black key & 2x remote fobs. HTH

I was actually given three keys. Two black ones and one grey one.

The grey one is called a "Valet" key apparently. It will open the side doors and start the engine (if you have turned the immobiliser off with the alarm fob) but will not open the glove box or the boot.

Of my two black ones, one completely messed up the security system when it was inserted into the ignition so I bought a new one and threw that one away.

That valet key sounds like my black one which doesn't have a fob. The dealer called it an emergency key. I have asked them to get me a second remote fob as the second key is useless without it.

They say there is nothing they can do about the alarm as they can't alter the sensitivity. I have told them that I think there must be a fault, as it doesn't seem reasonable to have the alarm triggered by opening the garage door. Maybe I need to contact Honda.

When this happens is it with the roof up or down?

Would it sense movement of the garage door if the roof were down guys ?

I keep my car in a garage with an electric up and over door with remote to open and close.

Opening and closing the garage has no effect on the car whether the alarm is on or off in the car.

Opening the door with the key in the lock sets my alarm off too, always have to use the fob to undo the alarm.
