Cheers Gad,

At last some sensible advice

use a very fine wet and dry on the areas you are spraying (something like 1000 grade, used wet in soapy water

rinse clean

dry throroughly

spray them indoors, in a warm room - make sure the wheels have been in the roam overnight so they are the same temperature

before you spray, go over them with a tack rag to remove dust - if you can't buy one, make one from a ball of sellotape

warm the spray can in a bowl of warm water for 5 minutes or so before you start

always spray over a wider area than you actually need

after a day or two, use an abrasive like t-cut to blend the rough edges where the spray pattern ends

wax

Doesn't sound like a project my wife will appreciate over Christmas.

"Don't worry, I'm just taking over the dining room to lacquer these wheels"

Thanks for the advice. A nice post-Christmas project I think. Or I could always see how much my mate at the local coachworks will charge me!

if you take your time, you will do a perfectly acceptable job

I will tidy up wheels between refurbs and I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to paint

just don't rush it and you will be fine

Remember to also spay the back of the spokes as the edges are the place where corrosion usually starts.

Is it common for Notherners to give large empty boxes for Christmas presents?

Will it be soundproof?

It could double as my recording room

no, but the box(es) might have contained:

a) a cloth cap stand
b) a whippet kennel
c) a pigeon cage
