launching tips?
hi all,
i've only had my S for 7 days now and obviously i'm still very much a novice driver with the car.
however last night i was beaten off the lights 3 times by a golf gti - this was not nice - in my ctr i would have handed him his gti in a little doggy bag.
so basically what's the best way to take off in the S? lots of revs i'm guessing?
cheers,
billy

A Golf GTI?
High rev clutch dumps aren't to be recommended (at least not with any regularity) if you want to avoid burning the clutch out.
Personally, I've found that giving it a short rolling start and then flooring it will still see off most things that feel the need to take you on. That way, you avoid bogging down by giving it too many revs and spinning the wheels and also minimises the chances of frying the clutch if you try a 7-8k rpm dump

Only dump the clutch at high revs if you really need to. all good but can be costly and makes your clutch smell!!
Best way is as above get rolling then go. the GTI will think he's got you then you'll fly past and he'll never catch you!

I have never revved more than 3000 RPM at lights and nothing has beaten me, most things I dont bother it just the flash bmw drivers that cop it

cheers guys, i'll try and remember the rolling start tip next time!
in the week i've had the car i have been pleased with the amount of folk who DON'T try it on with the S - with the CTR everybody and their granny wanted a go but with the S most people are too busy admiring the car to bother with racing it!
which is nice
going up to Crail in a couple of weeks for the japanese performance magazine day - planning to have a play on the quarter mile for the first time with the S - should be fun!
anyone else going up for this one?
also going to the Kames track near Strathaven with another club i'm in: www.ss-r.com on sunday 11th april - kames is a sweet little track which is bascially a time trial track - one car on at a time - not planning to take the car on for this one but it's a nice drive down there and there are usually some other tasty cars to check out on the day - plus it will be my first time turning up at a club event in the S
if anyone fancies coming along just check out the site i mentioned above for more details.
cheers,
billy
ps. i'm sure i mentioned this is another thread but i can't remember what one
does the S loosen up once it hits around 10,000 miles or so? this was definitely the case with the ctr and i'm guessing the S will be the same?
