Default light wheels

i know this article is not S2k related but we know how sensitive the S is to changes in this area and this is done by independent tester and backed up with dyno and data log look at the gains made by simply changing wheels

http://www.europeancarweb.com/projectcars/..._car/index.html

this bits about power but in another issue they go on to talk about the increase in lap times due to wider tyres so not only do you release more power to the back wheels the wider tyres allow faster cornering so a win win situation.

makes you wonder what some have lost by fitting heavier wheels.
would be good if someone did a back to back test 16" vs 17" oem then some other brands

I certainly felt the difference with the Volks and the extra 1" on my old one.
Too often over looked IMHO

I can't say i noticed much difference from OEM 16" to 3PC works wheels in terms of accel or decel.

I'll know for sure when i switch to a different setup soon as the wheels are substantially lighter!

I felt difference going up a fair tire size, therefore adding some more rotational mass + further away from rotational point. It does make a difference, will have to see when I go back to normal summer tyres + 17" wheel (ROTA) to see what kinda difference there is... hopefully it'll be dramatic!!

do some testing and let us know
just before swapping wheels find a long gentle hill, at 3k floor it and hold until you reach 8.5krpm, the time it takes is your bench mark and as long as conditions are similar and you boot it at the same spot its a good indication on how changes made effect the car in real world terms, no launch involved or gear changes just the power of the engine, best way is to video the dash and use the video counter to calculate the time from the revs starting to rise and hitting the 8.5k, its always a good thing to have for those days your certain its down on power.

My rota's weigh the same as oem 17's IIRC.

I would have gone for lightweight wheels TBH but none were for sale at the time.

I had some measurements somewhere... they were roughly the same weight between 8" and 9" variants...

Front
  • 8.6kg or 19.0lbs
  • 8.9kg or 19.6lbs
Rear
  • 8.8kg or 19.4lbs
  • 8.8kg or 19.6lbs

Will weigh all of them again as they have the rubber on now, and will also take off my current ones and weigh those for comparison while also doing two vids

Any particular gear btw?? 2nd or what?

I seem to remember my rota slips weighing 22lbs in the rear!

Whatever feels right, from memory 3rd was my gear of choice, you need it high enough so the engine is out of it's power band and needs to work hard to lug it up the rev band, this way you show up any mid range improvement in HP and torque
If your very particular you can do a graph with rpm and speed or time, this shows in detail where the gains are.
