Default Loving performance winter tyres

4" of snow so far here in North Herts and my Bridgestone Blizzacks LM-25 did me proud. Eight miles of uncleared road, dual carriageway and motorway, 10-25mph all the way.

Did feel sorry for the BMW, Lexus and Audi stuck on the motorway slip road but I would have never driven in those conditions without these tyres on.

Got a bit of fish tail on a slope when pulling away due to a van stuck halfway up my road but I soon pulled away. So much snow getting road clearance rather than grip was the problem in parts!

Having said that, they are good on the cold dry and wet roads before tonight as my summer tyres where definitely giving up grip once we got to around 5C. As the regional average for my area is that and less for Dec-Feb, these are staying on till March

Stay safe out there

well done! Been tempted to get winter tyres myself but my S stays warm and dry in these conditions. Very tempted to get some for the van though as it has crappy Hankocks on it.

Where did you get your Blizzaks from? Bridgestone did not sell these in the UK when I bought my winter tyres a few years back - available in Europe though.

Wish I still had my snow tyres

I got them via mytyres and used their fully fitted service for which, luckily, there was a local garage. Although they list a lot of garages when you search, it is only till you order that you discover which ones seem to offer fully fitting. I only have the S, hence the need to avoid shuttling tyres about.

Took a week as I ordered end of November and got them first week of December. Went with 255/40/17 on the back which I have ran before with F1 Eagles.

If you can pay a bit more, I would get the Vredesteins they do as they have come down in price since I ordered. I did toy with the Dunlops in 245/40 but the model of tyre is slightly different front and back. Some of the US guys run that combo though.

There is one slightly bizarre thing about mytyres, they wanted a front page of a utility bill to check my address. As it was only the front page and just had basic info like my address, I did it. When I phoned they claimed they do it for first time orders. They are based in Germany and it is crazy that they can fly (I think) them out to us for their prices.

Drove to work and all about today and as along as I kept it steady, gentle and the speed down, no problem

It is strange being out and about in the white stuff, but after being off the road for two weeks last winter and never comfortable driving with summer tyres when the temps drop to 5C and downwards, I am glad I did it.

Here is to less stressful winter driving

Mytyres are indeed based in Germany they are part of the Delticom group but they have a depot in Glasgow. There main winter stock always seems to come direct from Germany, no my 7th Set of Winter rubber from then and no one else come close for price.
I would recommend the Nokian WRG2's at the moment. Had Vredestein Wintrac's on before the Nokian's and the WRG2's were better a tyre.

The Goodyear Ultragrip GW3s which I bought were from mytyres, and seemed the best of the winter brands they offered at the time.

The tyres were terrific, and with a bag of sand or two in the boot the car was unstoppable in snow - felt like you were in a 4wd offroader.

Euan, you do realise that everyone thinks you're a snow driving God at the moment?
