Default Machine polishing

Inspired by IMC27's recent post about repairing stone chips and wot not, I've treated myself to a machine polisher kit, so can any of the detailing enthusiasts out there tell me what polishes and waxes I could/should use on Moonrock paint when I eventually pluck up the courage?

There's no major swirl marks, so other than the chips, my only objective is to see if I can get a better shine than hand buffing.

My current arsenal includes Colinite 276, Poorboys Blackhole, the usual array of Autoglym polishes and waxes, Meguairs yellow wax and glaze, some Dodo juice hard wax (can't remember the product name - might be Purple Haze) and I've got some Poorboys SR 21 (I think).

I'm not going for show quality so I don't plan to spend huge sums on absolute top of the line products - I'm happy with the better end of mainstream stuff - so what of the above should I use (if any) and what else do I need?

Any advice very welcome.

The auto finesse revitalise kit is a good place to start, comes with everything you need including pads, instructions etc. It's a full proof kit and one of the best available (their wax and rejuvenate polish is also very very good).

Have you bought a couple of different polishing pads as well? These vary in abrasiveness like polishes, and you need to match the pad to the polish to get the best results.

Have a look on www.ultimatefinish.co.uk
and go for a medium pad with something like Dodo Juice Lime Prime, followed by a softer pad and the light version of Lime Prime, then use Black Hole applied by hand, topped off by a wax such as Collinite or Poorboys Nattys.

I need to do mine again. Although the car is usually covered, I suspect that our resident fox has been clambering over it.

Machine polishing is therapeutic.

Meguiars 105 & 205 topped with a good wax should be enough to get you started. Then just a medium cutting pad and finishing pad. Try and keep it as simple as possible to begin with and add from there..

Ron - there's tons of info, but as usual with old/long running threads opinions differ, so for every bit of advice, someone disagrees with it. I didn't feel too bad about starting another thread as I wanted particular advice for a novice (a ham-fisted one at that). I'll happily take Groova's reprimand though (again)

Imc - thanks very much. I've got a full set of pads/sponges but I'll get the missing consumables ordered up.

Thanks Jaws. Simple is good.

Cheers, FB

Out of interest, did you get a DA or rotary polisher?
