Default Maybe getting another S2000

Hi folks.

I sold my 2004 S2000 when I moved to Canada late 2005. Now I’m living in Switzerland but get back to my UK home every few weeks.

I’m thinking about getting another S2000, to have some fun when I’m in the UK, and also take it to Switzerland for some of the Summer months.

For now, I have a couple of dealer and insurance questions.

I’m willing to pay up to £18k for a low-mileage Silverstone (my previous car’s colour) or Moonrock, with full black interior. Home in the UK is in Somerset, and the local dealers don’t have anything to suit at the moment, although one is trying to source one for me. Looking on the Honda UK site, Yeomans in Littlehampton have what appear to be some nice ones. Anyone have any experience with them as a dealer?

There’s really nothing around in Switzerland at the moment, either. The nearest dealer has an Ultimate Edition white one, but that is red inside and, oh, around £39k equivalent!

As regards insurance, are there any favoured companies at the moment? I can provide evidence of no-claims over the last 20 years. Our Jeep in the UK is insured in my wife’s name with me as a named driver, but that’s with the NFU (we have a smallholding) and I can’t see them being competitive for an S2000. I also now have a Swiss licence, as you have to surrender your UK licence within a year of arriving. That wasn’t a problem for the NFU for the UK insurance. I can always provide evidence of having had a UK licence for, crikey, 37 years.

Looking forward to getting back into the fold!

There are issues with 09 engines, quite a few have failed

Have a search on the forum

£18k is too expensive for any 09 car (you could gladly have my car for that price )

Around £16K should buy you a mint, low mileage example

PS, you won't get a late "silverstone" car, it's called "synchro silver" from 08 onwards

Thanks for the heads-up on 09 engines. I have in mind an 06 or 07 model (I prefer the wheels).

I do need to get myself back up to speed with the revisions over the years since 2004 (not many I, know), and problems too.

My £18k was based on dealer prices for the later models, but I don't mind paying less! It's 'just' a matter of finding the right one.

I bought my 06 plate S2000 from Yeoman's Littlehampton a couple of weeks back (you can actually see the car (the red one)I bought in the background of the photos for the last two cars listed on their website.) I had a look at both of these cars (although out of my price range) and one of them had real cheapo budget tyres on the rear and the other had a small tear in the roof.
If you do decide to go take a look, make sure you ask if the car is a parallel import - I didn't and then a few days after picking it up I realised it had originally came into the country via Malta. So it was probably bought new from a car supermarket. The car had the alarm, but no locking wheel nuts (but they supplied me some free of charge when I mentioned them not being on the car)underneath the car seems to be fine in terms of underseal, however the rear arches need re-doing on mine as a lot of it has been jet washed off. By going on what people say on here having a parallel import is no big deal and I think they're probably right, but you could use this as a bargaining tool - as I certainly would have if I'd known...

In terms of customer service they were good the part ex offered on my Clio 200 was good, however I sold privately.

For insurance stuff, see here https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/871...n-thread-four/

Insurance premiums have risen sharply in the last year or so, as insurers have been losing lots of money.

yes, they are well established and I have used them with no problems at all

all I would say is that I think their forecourt sticker prices are high - but then that's true of most main dealers

they are part of a much bigger chain covering other manufacturers including Peugeot and Toyota

let me know if there's a car you want me to take a quick look at - I will pass there today and tomorrow

Thanks again everyone for the advice.

Trailerparktrev, the parallel import thing had slipped my mind. I'll make sure I check every one I look at.

Gaddafi, thanks for the offer. I'm back in the UK this weekend and was planning on taking a (long) detour via Littlehampton on Monday afternoon on the way back to Heathrow. So a quick look beforehand would be great. The ones of interest are the 2006 Silverstone (16k miles) and two Moon Rocks, the 2007 with 20k miles, and the 2008 with 19k miles.

I'm maybe going to see an 04 Silverstone GT on Saturday, with just 19k miles. In the pictures the dealer sent me, I saw a small door ding on the panel at the front edge of the rear offside wheel arch. Not sure if this area is double-skinned ot not. The dealer's dent guy is going in tomorrow and will take a look. Other than that, it looks immaculate (in the photos anyway). Does anyone know the history of CU04 BUP?
