Maybe getting another S2000
I know of examples where the "death rattle" in 09 cars have been either TCT or clutch related, and nothing to do with replacing an engine.
What I am saying is that these things can be blown out of proportion and paranoia set in. Making sweeping statements such as "There are issues with 09 engines" could be misleading.

AE, the fact still remains that there are many 09 cars with replacement engines, try telling the owners of those cars that there aren't issues (Longpig in particular who had 4 engines, I don't think Honda would have been keen to keep replacing engines if the issue was TCT or clutch related)
S2000's are very mechanical sounding cars and visiting the forum can cause a bit of paranoia, I get that
However, you asked for some figures and I gave them to you so I don't think my statement is misleading
There are 12 cars that I know of, we've covered that............
Bristol Honda (who are well respected on the forum) have confirmed that "there is an issue which only affects 09 cars"
How many cars would you like to fail before you acknowledge there is an issue ?
Multiply my figures by a very conservative 4 times (for people who do not visit this forum) and that would give you around 50 cars
Considering Honda only sold about 600 cars in 2009 that is an exceptional failure rate
I don't see the need to defend Honda in this instance, perhaps you do ??
How do you get to your 4x multiplier?
I do acknowledge there have been some issues. I also acknowledge there were issues in the past, where engines have been replaced under warranty.
I'm not defending Honda, and have no need to, I just think there has to be some balance.

Good luck with your budget you should be able to find a good one.
I am in aggreement with greggwitz after reading lots of threads on her with people with trouble with the 09 model and the fact Honda were finishing the S2000
run. It would be a different story if I owned an 09 model thou!!!

I am trying to gauge how widespread the issue may be
Assuming most people who own an S2000 do not necessarily visit the forum or post about their car blowing up
I think it's safe to say that there is an issue with shells, main bearings, crankshaft thrust washers, etc.
The dealers don't actually know, they just replace the short engine at Honda's request
And from what you've said, all the 09 TCT's and clutches are sh1te too

Tremendous !! Who's replacing the motor ?? Hope it's not yours and my favourite dealer !!
Was that the moonrock car Paul? I've noticed that car in passing but thought it was an 08
Out of interest what was the mileage and did it have any tell-tale warning signs ?

Add another '09 to your 12 Steve, someone in my place of work has an '09 and the engine gave up and died last month - again apologies to OP ... except to add if I had your budget for an S I would personally avoid 09 cars.
