Default Mirror bolt size

I have two projects to get the S back to its former glory:

1. There is a concave dent in the door around the mirror where someone has leaned on it. I figure removing the mirror and then pushing or maybe pulling on it (plunger?) will pop it out. It is very slight like a coke bottle when you squeeze it if you know what I mean...

2. Boot lid never polished up and I have worked out was just a bad paint job by previous owner. It is very livable but is matt compared to rest of car when polished. I have found the weld point on the inside - they did a very good repair but not so good on the paint - it looks like they closed the boot on something big and made a hole.

Any suggestions on how I am going to resolve project 1? It is a very slight concave and you can see it when it is pointed out. I have decided not to tug on the mirror as it wont help being atached to the door rather than the skin. I have an exploded pic and see the bolts that need removing, looks very fiddly - any tips on mirror removal would be much appreciated

Second project - well thats all down to costs. I will take it to the body shop one day but if anyone has a guestimate that would be appreciated. Could always get a spolier done at same time I suppose

1 - get a paintless dent removal guy to do it

2 - Try polishing it yourself with a RO polisher and compounds - rahula could probably advise

No can do when he did the other dings (very well) - said the mirror would have to come off as its putting too much tension on the skin to pop it out. Could be someone replaced mirror and over tightened?? Either way it's gotta come off I'm afraid

Reading this that Paper Lawyer kindly posted I get confused re the bolt size. 6x1mm ?? What does that mean?

I think I will need a long thin T bar socket thingy for that. Assume it means 6mm socket by 1mm deep?? nah cant be right?

not the one I had, all he used were the tools he was trained to use, those spatula wire type things - perhaps its a jobsworth insurance thing but he declined the job.

Maybe I can find someone else but the job he did was A1 - just had his own limitations.

I feel it will be dead easy though once I work out the bolt size. Pretty sure you are working blind to undo so Im reliant by the link above. What size we talking here folks?

how are you going to do this..

it's pretty tricky to get to...

I can't remember if I used a socket, I think it was just a simple open ended spanner.

Getting to the back of the mirror is likely to be a PIA.

If compounding the lid doesn't work, try a recommended back street refurber for a quote.

OK cool - the 1mm is thread, thats fine then..

I was going to buy a T bar socket whcih should get to the bolts. It will be long enough and easy enough to negotiate with I think.. hope.. But need to find a 6mm one - think they generally start at 8mm so will have to get searching

It will def be a bastard to get to, hopefully having one of these will make it as painless as possible!
