Default Mugen CAI fitting

I'm having the Mugen CAI fitted on Tuesday

I'm sure Southern Counties will make a good job of it, but I have a question.

At the front of the engine bay, above the radiator, there is an OEM black plastic air guide, from what I can gather, it appears to direct the air coming in from the air damn onto the radiator. It is in this area that the Mugen CAI collects the air from. Does the OEM plastic air guide need to be removed? (I think it should be removed otherwise it will block the air from entering the Mugen CAI)

I did have a close look at the SC Mugen demonstrator, but can't remember how it was fitted at the front?

(and of course, everything is in Japanese, so I don't understand the fitting instructions)

Cheers

franky

Fitting it will be simple if you take your time.

The bonnet cuts will require the correct tools and patience. The Airguide you mention has to be cut. Spares of this can be bought from Honda for less that 30 pounds.

yep, thats the one

the first and third pictures clearly show the black air guide is still in-situ (where the CAI dissappears at the front of the car).

The CAI collects air from this area, this is why I would of thought a hole would need to be cut in the OEM air guide to allow lots of cold air up to the intake?

CC - thanks. Oh and sorry geezer, but I did not get time to go shopping in Tokyo so could not bring back the SP.

NP mate, I`ve got one now! If you`d have brought yours back I`d have had two - but thats not an issue, you can never have too much Nintendo. So its a blessing in disguise.

So what did you get up to over there? Did you buy the Mugen gear? Thats one thing I didn`t do when in Japan, look in the car shops - but I wasn`t in the S then. Were the auto shops easy to access or out of town?

I got a guy in the office to have the CAI deliverd to the office, all I had to do was carry it back on the plane. No worries. I have not had time to visit any car shops whilst in Japan, but just walking round the streets of Tokyo is enough in itself.

I saw,

3 x Nissan Skyline GT34 V-spec (or whatever, latest ones)
loads and loads of scoobies
probably about 20 Mazda RX8's (nice cars)
Loads of Mistubishi EVO's
2 or 3 Farrari's

Tokyo is such a great place for cars !!!

Next time I go, I plan to try and bring back the Mugen header manifold, slightly bigger than the CAI though !!

It needs some cutting, but leaving in place. This is important IMHO if you run on track. Remove it and your car will run hotter.

If you want the instructions in English, pm me your email address and I'll email them.

Hello.
I actually did this (brought back the header from Japan). The box for the CAI is roughly 3-4 times BIGGER than the box for the header (by volume), though the header is heavier. Saved myself $400 plus shipping
