Default My detailing of Neils (S2K NR) car

Ok.... over the bank holiday I tackled "Neil's" car. Its covered over 100k miles and it had seen better days!

After 32 stages of cleaning over three days/evenings I have finshed it.

A quick overview:

Interior clean, wheels, prewash foaming, Claying of bodywork, treatment of roof, machine polishing, 2 layers of Sealant and finally some layers of wax!

The car had some really bad swirl marks in the paint work. I recently got the G220 and it works a treat! I managed to get lots of them out with the polisher but some remain. I found the Sonus SF1 wasn't as abrasive as I wanted so I dug out some dirty old Mer scratch remover - was messy but it worked well. Then I went back to the other compound to smooth of the finish.

Heres a link to the album here - I didn't take many of the finished car as I wanted to get some more when he collects it!

Heres some of my better shots (i'm a self confessed rubbish photographer!)

The NOT so shiney bit!

Oh... its holding my oem car cover on the car - as my cars in the garage!

I forgot to take a photo of the finished exhaust - so I popped out just now and lifted the cover up!

The G220 is very easy to use, best cleaning purchase for a long time!

PS: I have bubble wrap around the rope where it touches the car so don't worry!

Some hard work to go at on that car Si!

You did a good job but I suspect the products and pads combination weren't aggressive enough and/or the polish hadn't fully broken down leaving the hazing apparent in the 50/50 shot and the after polishing shot.

Personally I would have used a Meguiars burgundy pad on that car, with Menzerna Intensive Polish, and importantly worked the polish fully. Then I would have used a polishing megs pad with Menzerna FPII polish and finally the waxes or LSP of choice.

You did make a huge improvement to the paintwork though, and it no doubt looks a hundred times better than it did, good job!

The paintwork was horrendous initially

Thanks

I only got the Sonus start pack and my pad & compound choice was limited.

I had noticed the hazing - just need more practice! I didn't want to ruin Neils paintwork so I took it "relatively easy!" - He doesn't even know I brought the G220

Well I have plenty on room on my driveway!! But Neil is sort of paying us - as he is kindly taking us ( The wife, two close friends and I!) to gatwick for our holiday in egypt in three weeks time!

But seriously I would like to give up the day job so to speak!

I already have 3 cars local residents lined up

Nut - I do recall I did get the oily effect on the bonnet with the sonus products - but I never experienced that with the "hard as nails" Mer... I think I'll be sticking to the sonus for the time being!

But I do have my mums ye olde 106 in red which is paler than an albino in the snow! Might give that ago next!
