Default My 'project'

After many years of swapping and changing cars often I decided it was time to settle down with a car I liked.

When deciding what to buy I decided I had 2 rules I had to follow:
1)It had to be a Honda and 2) It had to be a roadster.
Choices of model were as you can imagine plentiful.... Having crushed myself in a desperate attempt to drive a Honda Beat many years ago it had to be an S2000. I had a 99 JDM in 2003 for around 6 months. It was a great car and I have great memories of steering on the throttle on a runway day I did in the car.

I decided as I was short on cash that I would buy a cheapish car with sound body and mechanicals and then 'upgrade' it as I wanted over time.

So last month I bought this silver s2000 with 76,000 miles on the clock.

The car had an annoying vibration from underneath, I am a trained mechanic and could have sworn it was a rattle from the cat heat shield. First thing I did therefore was fit a high flow cat bought from someone here on the forum. When underneath the car it was clear the fault was coming from the gearbox. I thought clutch rattle but it was so loud and I noticed some weirdness, holding in gears and weird crunching when shifting (not like a normal synchro fault) I was shifting from 2rd to 3th and found nothing.... when slow shifting though it seemed ok. Upon checking the gear oil it was clear something was wrong as there was no oil... ...but no evidence of a leak either.

So I bought a low mileage 2nd hand gear box from a 2006 car, new clutch kit and all new oils and got it fitted. I changed gear oil, diff oil and clutch fluid with really high quality oils, Motul and Redline MTF.
The noises are all fixed now (and definitely a lot of it was clutch noise the release springs were SO lose and rattly).

I also fitted a Billman250 mk3 TCT to be safe

Next I got a new gear knob, roof latches and K&N filter. I am also tall 6'4" so I bought a BYS seat rail and fitted it.

Next on the list is a major service and valve clearance check/adjustment. I have bought all of the bits just got to do it.
I also plan to replace the discs and pads, going to go with Ferodo DS2500 pads as they have always done me well in the past.

I am also in the process of getting a spare cat back exhaust and performing the 'UK mod' with 38mm piping. I have even bought a little polishing kit to make the exhaust look as good as possible before fitting it.

I would like to lower the car a little, considering a set of Eibach springs but need to check with the dreaded insurer first.

I love the way the S2000 looks but the stock 16" wheels just look too small for me. I bought a set of the 2004 type 17" wheels with nearly new Bridgestone tyres which I was dead pleased with. Price was very good but the lacquer had come off all over the place so they are in the wheel refurb place right now and will be done tomorrow.

While I was working on the cosmetics I decided I wanted to go for either a front lip spoiler or a facelift front bumper. After finding a bumper for a reasonable price I went for the facelift bumper. I will get it sprayed up and fitted in the next couple of weeks and post more pics.

Forum/club has been incredibly useful so far. S2KI is an amazing community and resource. I look forward to attending a meet sometime.
I am well familiar with the whole forum thing as I used to be very involved in the GTR.co.uk forum and FD:UK (3rd gen RX7's) where I was part of the admin team.

Love the car so far despite it's flaws and it will be great to tailor a car exactly as I want it. I will post new pics and info as I carry out the work.

Ant.

Nice car but man you bought the slowest colour, affectionately known on here as 'silverslow'.

Those are the best 17" OEM wheels in my view, and congrats on the car, it looks great

Yeah I know, I wanted one in drag queen blue but it seems too many people had good taste when buying new so mainly silver cars for sale
If I could choose any colour for the car it would be Championship white.... best colour ever.

I got the exhaust I bought. Annoyingly I bought one the seller claimed had polished back boxes, it still had all the paint on them and frankly was nothing special at all. After I had to wait weeks for the damn thing to arrive I was quite annoyed.

So anyway, seeing as it was not polished I thought I would do it myself. I started earlier in my little workshop/classroom.

I got all the paint off and it's now ready to polish. Just need the Silvo to arrive! Anyone able to tell me what the engines in the background are from?

Next I got the exhaust prepared for the 'UK mod'. I have now taken it to an ex students house who is going to kindly weld it for me.

Got the wheels back from wheel refurb. Sadly they just left the skanky looking centre caps so I asked them to paint them and finish the job properly. Colour is called 'aluminium silver'

And here is the old gearbox, may she rest in pieces.

I think those lifts are about £1500 but they are pretty shit to be honest. The car only goes up half way and it's plain dangerous when it's not bolted down (It's meant to be portable). It's better than nothing though as I can't fit a full size 2 post lift in that room.
