Default No remote unlocking

I haven't used the S for a few weeks and as it's nice today I thought I'd use it for work. Went out and pressed the button and nothing happened, no indicator flash no unlocking. Went and got the other key fob and the same, nothing happening. I am guessing with all this cold weather the car battery may well be flat. (I'm fairly sure the key fob batteries are ok after an earlier immobiliser issue)I didn't have time to play this morning but the main question is when I open the car with the key will the alarm still go off and if so how can I turn it off if the key fobs won't do it. Should I just let it sound while disconnecting the battery to charge it up. How long will it sound on it's own battery before it resets as well. Didn't check if the red light inside had gone out but as no flashing indictors I'm guessing not.

Thanks

Marc

It may be that there migth be enough juice in the battery to switch off the alarm, but not unlock the doors, so I'd say it was worth manual unlocking, and then trying to use the fob to disable the alarm.

Have you another car or a spare battery to get a jump from? If that's the case, you could unlock, connect up to another car/battery asap thereby giving you enough juice to disable the alarm.

I'm afraid I don't know about the length of time the alarm sounds on it's own battery.

Thanks Euan, several other cars but the s is facing the garage and can't get anywhere near it to jump start.

I will try the key when I get home from work, at least if the alarm sounds I'll be there. Give the battery a quick charge and see what happens

IIRC, the law is that it sounds for a max of 2 mins then resets itself as long as the doors etc. are shut.

9 separate soundings, this is IIRC - not sure it is gospel

No alarm going off as battery is completely dead, 2.4v or something similar so a good charge overnight should sort it. Be good to get out for a drive tomorrow

I would check the battery once its charged up again, in case its on its way out. Better to be safe than sorry - sod's law, if the battery is knackered the next time it will fail to start the car is when you are stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Good idea, have the AA as well and I believe they are always keen to sell batteries. It has an indicator which says it's drained but not knackered. The recent cold weather had probably not done it any favours.
