I did get a rectification notice from the Police with the Spoon exhaust on - not the Mugen. They were pleasant enough about it. Swapped the Mugen exhaust on, took a trip to the Policestation, paid

Brian, I probably missed your original post, but what were the circimstances then? Did they test the Spoon to deem it illegal? ( I nearly bought one of them, they sound great on the CTR )
They pulled behind me, as I was at about 3500rpm - the loudest, most boomy point for the Spoon exhaust. They said from the sound, that they thought it was blowing - the MOT failure style problem. It hadn't been back on the car long, so it was possible I hadn't got a perfect gasket seal. They did not noise test the car - though did mention that they could. (Which I knew, but highly doubted they would unless provoked - a lot of hastle for them). Since I'd accepted that there
could have been a fault they said that's why the ticket - to make sure that I followed up on it. The car was also decatted at the time - still perfectly road legal, though as I've said the Spoon exhaust could test over. But it didn't seem worth making an issue out of it.

Of course, should anyone be stopped and tested there's always the approach taken by a lot of bike engined cars to get through SVA. 'Forget' what the redline is, and remember a lower number. They have to test at 2/3rd max rpm... and it's amazing how much quieter things are a few hundred rpm lower. 8k redline is crap isn't it?

Just out of interest guys, i was pulled a couple of years ago, and was told by the copper he could impound my car, because he had special powers!!
Anyway this resulted in me complaining to the inspector of Traffic on South Yorkshire, who turned out to be a realy nice guy. He explained to me that PC ****** wasn't the most customer focused on his team and would have a word.
The up shot of this conversion was that he told me if you didn't think it was safe for the offers to conduct an examination of your car at the road side, but they wanted to give you a producer, you have the right (But they keep it quiet) for you to ask for a defered examination at a place and time you choose, say at work tomorrow etc.

Turns out this copper did have extra powers because of qualifications he brought to the job, turns out he was less qualified than me, which showed when he was asking me if the rear suspension on my Pug 309 has a subframe!!!!

Hope this helps

Gary
