Default Noisy gear change

Upgraded ~3 weeks ago from MR2 Roadster to S2000GT and now have 1300miles on the clock. From day 1 there seems to be a growling noise from the clutch/transmission when changing gear. It doesn't always happen e.g. usually OK above ~5500rpm but more frequently below this. Is this normal or should I get it checked out by the dealer?

The growl's normal. (I like it.).

If you've buzzing under decelleration around 4,000rpm then that's the well know clutch noise.

This shouldn't be the case on 2002 cars though, Brian!

3000 miles and I now have some noises. This only happens randomly during the week and when the car is warmed up. If driving quickly the car starts making a metallic sounding noise from what appears to be under the bonnet. Normally when decelerating. The sound is like loose metal plates vibrating. Haven't been able to figure it out and can't take it to the dealer until I can replicate it on demand. Any ideas?

Rahula:

If you're sure it's from under the bonnet, it's almost certainly the heat shield which is made up several separate pieces. Vibration is a well known problem with it. You can see the shield on the left side of the engine as you stand facing the front of the car.

It can be a pain to get sorted! Get the dealer to look at it.

Done 2186 Miles now !! in 3 months, don't get out much but floor it when i do

I've always had a vibration in 2nd gear when pulling away at low revs, sounds like a metal plate vibrating then
disapears when the revs pick up, i am due for the spark plug recall and was going to ask then what it was,
anyone any ideas ? it may save them blasting my car round the block if anyone does.

in my opinion all these various noises (providing they don't indicate any serious problem, or have the potential to cause problems later on) simply add character to the car and add to the driving experience - they wouldn't have been acceptable in my M3 but funnily enough they don't seem to matter in my S2000 not very logical perhaps I admitt

Shouldn't, but there have been 055 spec clutches that develop the same fault. Way less common, but the 055 disc isn't a complete solution.
